Incorret trees on Alaska North Slope

Recommended Posts

I just finished a flight from Anchorage, Alaska to Deadhorse, AK (Prudhoe Bay).  I was amazed to see some trees there when I landed.  I worked there on and off for 30 years and I can assure you that there is not even 1 tree there unless you grow it indoors.  There is lichen, moss and a few arctic flowers that grow 6" high in the summer, which is from mid June until early September, but there are no trees, bushes or any other vegetation on the North Slope which encompasses anywhere north of the Brooks Range.  That is the definition of tundra.  The reason for that is probably because of the 2,000' thick permafrost that only melts on 2' or 3' of the surface during the 2 1/2 month "summer".  That turns everywhere up there into a 3' thick swamp.  The only access during that period is on gravel roads.  So if you want to make that whole area realistic, you should remove all the trees on your next update.
