I had a smooth TO and flight out of KPHX, with good liftoff despite the high temperature, and headed due west to KPSP. This has been a hard bird for me to master, but I think I have finally managed it. BTW, this is the Flight One, Connie that comes with P3D, not the much more study level from A2A.
So, here we go,
This is P3D V5.2 with EA, AS, ASCA, Envshade and of course Orbx KPSP...

After reading some recent comments about Vector in 5.2 and whether it is needed or not, I installed it yesterday. So far, aside from the additional load time, I have no noticed any real differences. I will keep it active for a while for no special reason except interest in whether it makes any difference.

Hi Jack, here is one which I thinks demonstrates the clarity now available from V5.2 with Orbx.

Why is anyone using Vector with P3D v5? I seem to have read in the forum that it is no longer necessary. I have not installed it. Am I missing something?

Delightful shot Sherm.
Thanks Adam....I don't have the capability to go for the drama that you express in your screen shots, and I do appreciate your comments about my small effort to spread the pleasures of our hobby.

No VR of any sort, but once a few things have been sorted out, 5.2 is a worthwhile upgrade.

Geez Lain, I wondered about when you had time to fly with everything else you do around here...:-).....time well spent in the sin air, I might add....

btw, interestingly enough, a fellow pilot at DCA, who is South African, posted on our web page an anecdote about a SAAF transport plane that was on its way to an air show in The UK and lost two engines...went down...and could not be recovered because of hostilities in the area...my friend has not yet told me whether the crew was rescued, but from his general description of conditions, I doubt it.

After having my OC installation issue solved and all running well, I am experiencing an old scenery problem which I thought had been resolved. I am not suggesting any connection with OC, just putting this into a time context. Here is the problem of the KTEX floating runway. Suggestions to correct his issue are welcome.
BTW, this is the default KTEX, NOT Orbx payware.
Thanks.

This is an excellent idea Sherm and one which makes life so much simpler
One of the frustrations that I have with the MS Store addition of MS2020 is that so many of the files are encrypted/non accessible due the protection layers that are added
It makes it difficult to be able to do things like you suggest that would make life just so much easier
Cheers & thanks
Pete
I think that is called "progress", except when it isn't. MSFS has a lot of promise, but IMO is still not there yet, which is why I am holding off.

Hi sherm
Unfortunately (at least on my system) any comment(s) in UserCFG.opt gets stripped out as soon as MS2020 runs .
It is a great idea though.
Does it actually work on your UserCfg.opt file, as that would be interesting to know
Cheers
Pete
Hi Pete,
I do not have msfs...I fly P3D v5.1. Evidently msfs has a different cfg setup....I thought my idea might help....sorry that it doesn’t

Thank you.

Hi John
That's interesting.
After you edit the UserCfg.opt file, did you check again to actually see if the change was saved.
Out of curiosity , do you have administrator rights on your machine?
One additional thing to try
Firstly make sure you have a backup!
Type cmd in the Search window and then click run as administrator
Then type notepad on the dos prompt line and then navigate to the file location and change the parameter and save
It is possible that it is overwriting the file ( I noticed on my system that if I set render scaling to 120, and save it , for the duration of the session everything is good. If I exit and restart it reverts back to 100. On the other hand if I set render scaling to 130 and save it , it keeps that setting.
Ah the mystery and intrigue of a new sim
Cheers
Pete
Thank you Nick. I am pleased that this was of interest and use.
As I mentioned to John (above) my experience has been the same as yours that manual edits to config files are not overwritten. But as I noted there are some fascinating nuisances to some of the parameter changes at the moment.
Cheers
Pete
Hi
Individual choice of course, but you could certainly try it. With 10 bit the lack of definition in the bright areas may not be quite as apparent as with 8 bit (I'm assuming that you have 10 bit selected in display properties in NVCP).
For reference , my monitor has a contrast ratio (native) of 1500:1 and a maximum brightness of 250 nits (cd/m2) which is slightly higher than your system, but it is running on 8 bit
During my working career I spent quite a bit of time on the ocean and I grew to really enjoy the interplay of sunlight and shadow on the water's surface with broken cloud cover. As you can see from some of the screenshots this change allows that lighting behavour to be reproduced and I really enjoy that
Please ensure that you have a backup of the UserCfg.opt file before you make any changes.
You could then make the change to see if you like the rendering with HDR10 turned off. If not you can easily change it back again.
Hope this is of help
Cheers
Pete
Just a minor point. Instead of backing up,the cfg file, could you just simply “remark //“ the changes for example
HDR=0 //1 or the reverse
HDR=1 //0
i do this all the time when editing a cfg. Also at the top of the file I will
// Date
// specific change made
then I save the cfg with changes I want to try, or easily go back to the original setting as I choose.

Greetings all,
Is it possible to create a "private" group flight. Such a feature would be ideal for VAs or simply a group of individual pilots who would like to fly together? Thanks...great tool...

From what I have researched, it is possible to import Xplane logs into Little Nav Map. This is a freeware moving map program with various capabilities. I do not know enough about Volanta, but LNM works for me. Here is the link to their manual. Scroll down and you will see info about importing XPlane logs.

This is very generous from Orbx. But, on first glance, I am wondering how is this different, or even an improvement on LIttle Nav Map. This existing freeware does everything I think is mentioned about Volanta. Not only that, but users can import a Google Satellite Map to use in place of the sketcher Open Street Map...with that said, I am signing up for the Beta to get a first hand feel. Thanks, Orbx.

Excuse me if this borders on OT, but is there anything comparable for this setting in P3D? Thanks...

As noted, this is not the A2A, which I suspect is well beyond my skill set. Even with the Flight One, I have a devil of a time getting the right take off configuration to avoid too extreme an AoA....about 300 feet per minute works for me. I use two notches of flaps for TO at about 125 mph or more and then try a gentle lift off. Sometimes, it actually works...:-)
