  1. I wonder if they could have done this a different way and moved some of the less important changes to a separate install but had they done so PC users would have screamed from the hilltops and a conspiracy that MS was in the process of abandoning PC in favor of xBox would have developed like wildfire.

It is what it is. PC download for me is at 60% after 2 hours. Some crazy stoppages while some licensing issues were accepted has been interesting.

I have other things to do so needless to say they are being done.

  2. IMO City Packs are a waste of time and frame rate gobblers. They are just unnecessary eye candy that hardly rate a blink of the eye to serious simmers. Orbx should spend it's time developing nice mid sized airports that are kind on resource usage but add a bit of nicety to the Sim. Until they stop pandering to the eye candy crowd they won't be getting anything out of me, sale or no sale.

You're implying we'll already have to pay to download the data. Where did you pick up that? Haven't read it anywhere. Most certainly not the MSFS website.

I don't expect MS to start charging for downloading the Bing / Azure data. But I do wonder how their business case is buildup justifying all the server and dataconnection costs involved. On the other hand; MS is a HUGE company and I think it could very well be that the overall impact on their servers from MSFS is extremely small compared to the whole of all the stuff running of those servers.

It will start at zero cost but any charge above zero is an increase.

No one knows the future, but you could as well base your expectations on the many years of FS1-FS9 experience, which were successful and stable.

    Kind regards, Michael

Cynical or not with this model MS is effectively locking people in once they have invested in the Sim. There are many directions it could take but the most scary one from my perspective is that good scenery relies on streaming data. MS could easily decide that once they have a locked in cohort to start increasing the download connection charges to a find a a user pays sweet spot  that doesn't drive away their base. Pessimism is my middle name.

Thanks again Craig.  I did spend over an hour getting to grips with AIG but in the end the "one-click" solution won me over.  Have to find something to spend money on, this Covid stuff has shrunk my world a bit.  Thankful for flightsims.

The Covid thing has shrunk my world a lot.

When I was a European of North of England/UK domesticity - 50 years - the Far East was a derogatory term for all the above - because it was a description of "shoddy goods"

stemming mainly from Hong Kong - Taiwan (you missed off) -  Japan(cars) and the Philippines. Mainly plastic toys and cotton goods Very little came from Communist  China.

The current name as far as we - in the modern day Far East - are  concerned is the description "The Asean Nations" of which all of the above are members

    - and the 3 others you might have forgotten --- Australia - New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

However - my point was where the largest spots on the chart were - and should be the starting point for a much easier starting point for Orbx

as a marketing research in terms of SQ Kms - whatever it can be politically called

How times have changed. Now all the 'shoddy' goods come from the UK :D
