Hotspot
Luigi (ex Italian Airforce) and his young sister Sophia set course at Launceston for Lake Pedder, part of the world tour he has given her as a 21st birthday present. Hoping for clearing weather, they want to see some of the beautiful mountain lakes for which Tassie is renowned. The snow is lying on the mountain plateaus, and Luigi is so impressed by the natural beauty that they choose........ a small lake on which to 'land' and have lunch........ While relaxing in the serene surroundings, Luigi, who was already a young trainee pilot in the Airforce when Sophia was born, and who has lived away from home ever since, reminisces on life in the force from a trainee in old biplanes ............... through the many variations and duties,...... one of which was a secondment to the French Airforce in Morrocco teaching young recruits to fly in French Nords, which although looking like a bucket of bolts was a good performer and built like a brick outhouse - a pleasure to fly... ...progressing to the wooden wonder, which was light enough to perform extraordinarily well on only 750HP, but when hit by gunfire the wood shattered so badly that life expectancy was not the best...... to eventually the chief test pilot for the new jet fighter, which for many reasons, none to do with the aircraft, never went into full production. Luigi sees himself in his minds eye as sweeping through the beautiful Tasmanian countryside in one of the best performing fighters of the day .....to an imaginary approach to Lake Pedder. to be continued
