Had a work colleague many years ago who flew Spitfires during the BoB, he shot down 2 109's then later got shot down himself and was picked up by a British MTB after bailing out in the channel. He was always struck by the German pilot who after shooting him down circled gently as he chuted down to the water, made sure he was ok then saluted and headed home! It just goes to prove that the people who fight in the wars would by all rights be best friends on any other day.. They truly were pawns for their respective government's agendas..
