Mr_Yeti101
I love this little airfield. The approach is brilliantly challanging, coming into the runway 26, jinking to th left at the last minute and getting down before the runway, which slopes up hill, comes up to meet you and bounces you up in the air again. Great little route from Shoreham to Popham. Here is a vid showing the real approach at a flyin. />http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIEDsOXdZDM&sns=em And this shows airfield procedures, note the circuit shape! />http://www.popham-airfield.co.uk/Airfield%20Procedures.htm Love it! Compton Abbas is next, up on that hill.
AlexF389
Thanks for this! Only just noticed the No-Fly zone over the petrol station :/ - been overflying it on every approach in my mustang. Tight airfield, but satisfying!
Greg Jones
Glad you're enjoying it! That approach is really tricky to get right. These two give a good idea of what's needed! [media=]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTnW4oY60sQ Greg
Yak-52
I fly a Yak-52 out of Popham, and the offset approaches make it great fun. The straight approach to 03 I find the most challenging as there are some very high fir trees that obscure the numbers, and it is slopes downhill making it difficult to get the aircraft down early. 10 out of 10 for the scenery - only this morning I flew the Yak on a local sortie there and then simulated the same flight at home later - really very little to distinguish the real from the simulated - hats off to the team!! (P.S - the three hangers near 08 threshold are missing pedestrian doors next to the main hanger doors and my Yak G-YAKI hasn't been beautifully recreated ...... Only kidding guys)
Dave Colgate
I think that's one the greatest thing about these UK products, getting feedback from people who really fly the airfields, make comparisons and let us know that they're pretty true to life! Means a lot to those of us who crave to get their feet off the ground but just can't yet!
