Bournemouth airshow

Hey guys, just got back from a couple of days away with the family near bournemouth (South coast of England, county of Dorset). As it happens the air show was in town over the last few days also, so we were treated to a display of all sorts!

By all sorts i really mean all sorts, including the royal navy black cats (helicopter display team - Navy Lynx helo's), fast jet display from the Euro fighter typhoon, amazing aerobatics from the red arrows as always! (BAE T1 Hawks) a battle of Britan memorial flight from a Lancaster bomber escorted by two spitfires (those rolls royce merlin engines have to be heard to be believed!) plus loads of other aircraft displays from extra 300's to bi-planes with wing walkers!

We were watching from Hengestbury head, which is a cliff that overlooks Bournemouth bay (this all takes place over the sea along the beach front!), at one point the Euro fighter took a direct pass over our heads at probably 200ft with after burner, he must have been just sub sonic as we could not hear him coming, just see him coming, then a fraction before he was over top of us we were hit by the sound wall! man it was like being thumped in the chest with a fist of noise! Cooool  8)

Anyway it's been years since i have seen an air show, and this one was held at no charge to the public, completely free! they do it every year, only for some reason this year it was MUCH bigger than normal!

Just thought i would share  :)

Nice one Wolter, although may i suggest you take the ferry next time.....or even the Eurostar!  ;D

Unfortunately no camera with us! i did not know the air show was even happening, we were just in the right place at the right time.

Cheers mate,

Russ.

Wirraway, your right mate, it is a nice location, for those that have no idea what it looks like i found these pictures taken from Hengistbury head on the internet.

We were watching the airshow from the exact smae place that the second photo was taken, next to the cliff top fence, only we were facing more to the right (towards bournemouth direction)

Anyway the air show took place over this bay. The cliffs in the distance of the second shot, is the north coast of the Isle of Wight. I live about 20 miles down the coast from where these shots are taken. Most of the south coast of England looks like this, big sandy beaches and cliffs, so you see guys, it's not just Australia that has amazing scenery!

I was on the beach at Sandbanks in Poole on Thursday and saw the free show too.  The Red Arrows (as you said) were superb as normal and the Eurofighter was fantastic.

The Battle of Britain flight approached Bournemouth along the coast and the Lancaster flew right over our heads.  We also seemed to be in the spot where the aircraft held before starting their display so we got a close up of several of the other aircraft too.

Great day out, especially as it was free too!!!.
