Turnip
OK. Here's an original question for you. I came up with this while I was in flight school. Q: What's the differance between being INVERTED and UPSIDE DOWN???
John Bosch
Upside down implies a direction (the top is now the bottom). Inverted is simply an opposite ordering. Negative to positive, biggest to smallest, top to bottom, etc. So "upside down" is effectively a sub-set of "inverted" i.e. one that only involves the top/bottom of an object. How's that? dreamnugget
Me thinks in simple terms.....kinda attributes to my simple mind . My guess is that upside down refers to a static object, where as inverted is a moving object that (when refering to say an object as opposed to graphics) travels upside down. So I guess a plane could make an inverted landing but when it comes to a stop (on its roof), it is upside down .
John Bosch
This may be lost on you Turnip but ... I had to explain that there was no place called "Verta" to my mother when Tubby Taylor (the ex cricket captain) said "we have a Fujitsu inverter" in one of his adds. Turnip
HEHE OK ..... Here is the answer. It's quite simple really. When you're INVERTED, it's intentional. Watch This One Bob! vs "Oh Damn!"

peterhayes
I think what Wirrawayy is saying is that everything upside down is inverted; but not everything that is inverted is upside down. pH
John Bosch
Yeah, that's kind of it. I guess another example is that you can invert the polarity. You don't often turn the polarity upside down
Maurice_King
Intentionally flying Inverted is good pilotage (assuming the Airframe is rated to do so ). Upside down is an unintentional act of being down side up, either by environmental factors or otherwise.
