Well this is a post about the first (published) accident at Fall City. I learned from that! Never ever try to land an aircraft you're not fully comfortable with into a unknown airport! I did a little round trip with the Rutan Long Ez from Fall City to Ranger Creek and back! Departing and tooling around at Ranger Creek went uneventful Enter Fall City. Approach wind 10 knots at 260. Rwy West. Ezy Pezy..not! Did three go arounds. The Rutan is just too slippery, gains enormous speed at the flick of your thumb pushing the stick down with throttle zero. And on the forth run I had her almost at stalling speed at the approach. I though this time I'm gonna nail her down! LOL Well not, still too much speed for her poor feeble little front leg, it collapsed and I bounced with excess momentum into those beautiful waving trees..... One of the guys took some shot's... First bounce and collapse Yep a different angle, The pilot tries to keep his cool. Don't you just love those tree shadows? BTW Love the airport! Thanks very much. Not a very easy one btw....
