NZ255
Hey guys, I currently have a Q6600, GTX 460 and 4GB of DDR2 RAM. I'd quite like to build a new computer as it's been over a year, have money but wondering if I should get a 2600K now or wait for the new 3***K tech? I'm looking to wisely spend around 2.5K Asus DRW-24B3ST DVD burners $38.48 Asus GeForce ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5 1536MB Graphics cards (PCI Express) $749.00 Asus P8P67 Pro B3 Motherboards $272.41 Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced (Black/Transparent) Midi tower chassis $205.85 Corsair CMPSU-850TXV2 850W Power supply units $229.00 Corsair Force 3 Series F60 60GB Solid state drives (SSD) $243.81 Corsair Hydro H60 Complete water cooling systems $168.90 G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL8 2x4GB DDR3 memory sticks $159.00 Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4GHz Socket 1155 Box CPUs $426.63 Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 64MB 1TB 3.5 inch S-ATA hard disk drives $113.95 Total: $2,607.0 NZD This is what I'm looking at currently. Will I see a big of enough difference for the money...or wait. Although the new tech will probably be out of my $ range maybe? I run Orbx's YMML, but looking to purchase more Orbx with the release of the NGX. Also, what CPU cooler should I get if I upgrade? I like the idea of the low profile design seen in the H60, but heard its not great at actually cooling... not a huge fan of the massive tower designs esp. with a case with a window. Cheers guys

Matthew Kane
I say upgrade....I had the Q6600 as well and upgraded a few months ago to what is in my specs below. Best thing I ever did. Cheers
Jlebesis
I agree with YTZ! I just got the Gigabyte ud7 B3 with the 2600k.. And over clocked it ( this is a must), I've never had such beautiful gameplay. Couple with cfg tweaks, and the 580 you mention.. It will be a beast. No question here at all note: this chip is amazing even at stock speeds, but at 5ghz, I now don't even blink buying the bigger airports as I'm not as worried about fps. Good luck! Heiko Glatthorn
That will make a difference, guarantied... But a complete water cooling setup for 160 bucks ? (my radiator alone was more than that)

Volcz
Hah! My Q6600 is coming up on 5 years old I think. My Q6700 is @ 5.5 years. Same with my GPU. LOL.
John Bosch
Mine too. The GPU is the original 8800GT, just like yours . It still runs FSX quite well in most areas. The biggest airports give it some strain but it manages.

Although I'm looking at upgrading my GPU since it's starting to cough and sneeze.
Wolter van der Spoel
I'd say, think about a Z68 based MoBo as it has more options especially related to future uses, the H60 cooler is a bit meager, can report that the H100 cools like the Ice from the Arctic and a bit more check my sig for more ideas
NZ255
Thanks guys, I think I'll grab a Noctua U12P for the cooler, I didn't like the idea of another tower but this seems to do a better job than a smaller closed H2O loop system. I'm staying away from the NH-D14 though. I think I'll just buy it now, the newer tech is going to be quite a lot more by the looks of it...and in another 3-4 years I'll be upgrading again so...
