Andrew Schofield
Last Sunday I took a trip down to my local airfield, Wollongong (YWOL), to see the annual airshow of the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society. WYOL has been the home of HARS for a few years now, and the day showcased a great collection of historical aircraft, along with a few special guests. Along with 30 000 others I had a great day, even if the weather wasn't all it could have been... Starting off with a Messerschmitt 108 A Lockheed Hudson A good old Cessna 180C A Tiger Moth - this is starting to look like a repainters' convention... The RAAF top brass know how to do it in style HARS showpiece - Connie! A close-up of Connie's tail. For those interested, she's a Lockheed Super Constellation The star of the show (for me anyway), a Mark VIII Supermarine Spitfire, visiting from Temora Aviation Museum Love those lines... Hands up if you want to swap jobs with this bloke! A Canberra bomber Getting all arty... A Let L200A in Ansett livery The start of the action, and a couple of Red Beret paratroopers strutting their stuff A Lockheed Neptune firing up an engine A Navy Huey returning from dropping off paratroopers And that's the end of Part 1... Part 2 coming right up!
