cyberpilot
For those wishing to brush up their mountain flying skills here are some really useful tips from Ruth Presland, one of New Zealand's most experienced alpine aviators. http://www.mountainflyingnewzealand.com/newsletter/05_MountainFlying.pdf And for a taste of what to expect in the forthcoming South Island scenery read this feature on Ruth's mountain flying school at Wanaka. I had a session with her last year and she's very good. http://www.mountainflyingnewzealand.com/newsletter/06_AustralianFlying.pdf
Iain_Mc
Flying down to Wanaka from Nelson in a 172 was probably the bumpiest ride I've EVER experienced. Beautiful, no doubt, but I've only ever had to have both hands on the control wheel one other time (and that was bad enough - coming through the Columbia Gorge from KDLS to Portland under cloud, also in a 172). By 'eck, the wind can blow! Looking forward to flying it in a sim, somewhat less worrisome! Cheers, Iain
