hughp
Late afternoon flight from Starks to Scappoose Industrial Airpark. I was going to wait til the Portland City freeware came out to do this flight , but the area around the city already looks terrific to me, especially to the north along the Columbia River. Pearson. Was going to just follow my flight plan and not take screens but from here north the V key got more attention than the instruments. I just followed the river, gawping at the autumn textures in the late afternoon light and the tributaries and inlets of the river as the sun went down. Very detailed and interesting GA airport, another gem. Will have to do this flight again when Tim Harris's Portland is out- early morning next time. In the meantime I might just keep following this river... Bill Womack
Great shots! I used to fly into Scappoose all the time for touch-n-goes during my flight training. I remember one time my instructor and I were a little tired after a whole bunch of landings, and she wanted to drill into me one more time to pick my landing point and stick to it... I ended up setting the 172 down about ten feet shy of the actual runway! It's not a mistake I ever made again, believe me. Luckily it was just gravel, and nothing got damaged. These shots really bring it all back.

hughp
Thanks for the kind words- really like this area. I've been using Stark’s as a base for flights E and W and haven’t found a boring X-Country yet. Hanel field, Cascade Locks and the two Walters were all fun and had a beautiful early morning flight from Scappoose to Astoria Regl yesterday. If I’m lucky my home field (Parakai near Auckland) will be in an Orbx region early next year but there is so much to see here I may still be exploring PNW then
