Including the closure of Woodford Aerodrome (EGCD). Former home of A. V. Rose: also birthplace of the Lancaster, Avro Vulcan & Nimrod. :'( Ah well, thats life. Arnie. johnny
BAe closes yet another door...and yet another nail in the coffin...many have seen it all before unfortunately. BAe are a cynial lot, but what is important is the shareprice, job losses and site closures are always good news for shareholder value. For BAe engineers and engineering is just one huge overhead. They wanted to be seen as system integrators - the cost of underpaying real engineers to do the "dirty" work was just too costly - not good for their clean high tech powerpoint image. COBS
Not good. We have watched the progressive decline of the British aviation industry since the days of the TSR 2. I have to agree that Hot Shot bean counters sucking up to short term stock investors is a major problem, short term the books look good , but in the long term the companies waste away to nothing and disappear, now how bright is that for the investors. The stock market does not have an intimate involvement with, or interest in the core business of a company, nor in its workers or their expertise. It amazes me how sucessive governments have stood by and overseen the destruction of a once pre eminent and advanced aviation industry in Britain. All that wonderful expertise , lost for ever !
