tim_A
We're continuing North along the coast to Newcastle, and a little dirt strip that goes by the name of Wallsend... We managed to blag hangar space overnight, which was nice. [img width=1160 height=341]http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8466/ta323.jpg Of course, we pushed the plane out and did the preflight outside -- never start your engine inside the hangar!! [img width=1160 height=341]http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/92/ta325.jpg The wind has swung around since we arrived, so we're going out the way we came in. [img width=1160 height=341]http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/1081/ta333.jpg BUG cleared for take off, 07... [img width=1160 height=341]http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/267/ta338.jpg And we're going [img width=1160 height=341]http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/2039/ta345.jpg This is Aeropelican. On one side is Lake MacQuarie... [img width=1160 height=341]http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/4301/ta346.jpg ...and on the other, the Pacific ocean. [img width=1160 height=341]http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/7793/ta349.jpg [img width=1160 height=341]http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4053/ta352.jpg Heck, they even have traffic lights!! (I won't tell you about my first night sortie, when I was convinced I'd spotted the airfield PAPI lights... till they turned green. My instructor was wetting himself!) [img width=1160 height=341]http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/599/ta357.jpg Lake MacQuarie is Australia's largest coastal salt water lake, and twice the size of Sydney Harbour. [img width=1160 height=341]http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/9745/ta360.jpg Passing Newcastle heliport. Newcastle is the second most populous area in NSW, and also the world's largest coal exporting port. [img width=1160 height=341]http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5892/ta362.jpg Just beyond the harbour is Williamtown Military airfield. I did touch & go there, but it's just YADA, so I haven't shown it. [img width=1160 height=341]http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9660/ta372.jpg Back on the edge of Newcastle, and we reach Wallsend [img width=1160 height=341]http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/8977/ta374.jpg A private strip that RW is only open to RA-Aus aircraft [img width=1160 height=341]http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/2413/ta378.jpg It's also a bit marshy [img width=1160 height=341]http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/2163/ta380.jpg Although we don't get to seep in a hangar tonight, at least we have a concrete pad to park on, so our feet will stay dry!
