Dean (PC Aviator)
Subject says it all... Has anyone here overclocked a Core-i5 750 CPU, and if so, what speed did you successfully reach with standard air cooling?
Bell417
My 750 is currently clocked at 3.57Ghz (21 *170Mhz). This is the highest it seems to want to go, but many others have achieved higher stable clock speeds. Keep in mind I am not using the stock heatsink that comes with the i5-750. If you are using that heatsink, you'd do well to invest in a new one.
Phil Manhart
I'm using a Hyper 212 with one fan (it can use two), and have my i5-750 at 4.2 Ghz stable using the x21 multiplier supplied by the turbo-boost function of the chip (it's a trick in my bios to trick the chip into running at a higher than allowed multiplier). Temperatures are at ~35 idle and ~64 at full load on all four cores. It's a great processor if you are looking for great overclocking at a low price! Dean (PC Aviator)
4.2 Ghz!! Very nice I use just the standard heatsink and fan etc... Was not looking to overclock it too much, maybe somewhere around 3.2Ghz would be good Thanks for the replies.... I'll see how I go...
TenBlade
If you oc in increments, watch the temps. and see how high you can go. Make sure cabinet is well vented. Bjorn
Dean (PC Aviator)
Yep I'll put some dry ice on the heatsink

dogdoor
Just gave this whirl on my i5 750 following the below guide to the letter, got me to 4ghz stable for 6 hrs so far. I got the guy at the computer shop meet stall (in Collingwood today) to drop a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 fan into my box first though. Poor guy took him 2 hours once he detached the board and reinstalled all my crap.... This be the beast: Fingers crossed... haven't tried FSX yet. Iain Emms
Good luck on this you have the King of air coolers there mate so that should suck some cool air though. cheers Iain
dogdoor
Thanks Ian, seems mostly stable haven't had a chance to give it a hard workout under FSX but a couple of quick hops around PNW look encouraging... I still have to load up YMML and give it the proper fps test. Maybe tonight.
