TracyQ
I have Twin Oaks, and it definitely drags my machine down from stock PNW. specs: # Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 cache) # NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete video memory # 15.6†WXGA Glossy LCD (1366x768) # Genuine Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) SP1 # 4GB (4096MB) DDR2 Memory (2 x 2048MB modules) # 320GB 7200RPM Seagate HD Should I even try Vashon? Or wait until I get a more robust machine?
Guest simtechdave
Vashon is free... why wouldn't you try it I believe with your system it should be just fine. Most of how it performs depends on your FSX settings. I would guess that with auto-gen set at normal, terrain mesh at 10m, it should be fine. Most users haven't noticed a big impact if any at all. Of course, as we all know FSX reacts differently on different systems based on settings, programs running in the background etc... I also highly recommend Auslogic's free disk defragmenter after each install and/or delete as well. So go for it, if you don't like it or if it bogs down your system.....delete it. Good luck Dave EDIT: Also there is no AI traffic at Vashon, this should help as well. Twin Oaks has AI traffic, which is wonderful and really adds to the atmosphere, but can drag down some systems
Tim Harris
Vashion is freeware, you have nothing to lose Twin Oaks has AI traffic, which is wonderful and really adds to the atmosphere, but can drag down some systems The AI traffic you can turn off at the flick of a switch Dave
Guest simtechdave
Yes, I know... just wasn't sure if he knew that. Thought if he had AI on at Twin Oaks that might help explain why it was bogging down. @Tracy, how about it? What are your AI traffic settings? TracyQ
@Tracy, how about it? What are your AI traffic settings? They are at 16%. Maybe I should just put it at 0%? I know I should experiment, but my time on the computer, much less FSX, is very limited due to work. I do appreciate the replies.
