Eugene D. Gleed
How to install Orbx product in FSX-SE. Note: FSX-SE is on a separate drive.
lifendet
Run the installer and it should locate your steam folder and install it.
Eugene D. Gleed
I did and it work for Global and NA Alaska Canada and So. California. It Did not work for my older orbx products. on the older product the installer only allowed FSX on my C: drive. How can I install (comfigure) in FSX-SE on the G: drive? john548
If your older orbx products were downloaded from the Flight Sim Store then you need to re-download them and you will have the new installers for them.
Eugene D. Gleed
Thanks John. I will try that and see if it works. Dale Hi John548, That work for the install. However. with Pacific Northwest and Pacific Fjords the oceans are turned to forests. What going on and hpw can this be corrected? Dale
Nick Cooper
Have you also downloaded and installed the libraries and run FTX Central?

Nick Cooper
Looking at your previous posts, I am guessing that you did have FSX installed somewhere else. Was it the boxed edition or did you move your Steam Edition?
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, Yes, I have FSX Boxed set with all my Orbx products on it in a C: drive. I recently purchased FSX-SE and I am downloading and installing Orbx products into FSX-SE on my G: drive. The downloads and installation worked fine except that the oceans are now forests. Note: I have the disc for each product, but they have the old install software that doesn't allow for FSX-SE. Also, Orbx in the Boxed set in fine. Nick Cooper
Did you yet install the libraries into FSX-SE and your FTX Central should now have a start menu, allowing you to choose whether to run it for FSX or FSX-SE, has it?
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, I believe the file are in: strean/streamapps/common/FSX. I checked FTX Cental and I see no "start" menu. Dale
Nick Cooper
Go to the Freeware page and download the Orbx Registry Fix tool. Use this to create a registry entry for FSX Steam Edition. When you have, you should then see a start menu for FTX Central. Select FSX Steam Edition. To be honest, trying to run both versions together is a bit of a nightmare. I have given up because it's too much grief. Do you have a really good reason for doing this?
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, Yes, I just purchased a lot of stream missions and wish to use the better scenery detail, especially the airports. The Fix ask if I wish to change location from FSX Boxed Set. If I change location will I not have Orbx scenery in the boxed set? Dale
Nick Cooper
Don't change anything, add a second registry entry into the second box down, FSX Steam Edition. Point it to where you have FSX Steam Edition installed.
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, Success! Almost, the oceans are back, but there are small black squares along the streets and in towns. As you suggested I created FSX-SE in FTX, downloaded the scenery library, did the sync and force migration. Now , how to I deal with the black squares? We're almost there. Nick Cooper
Good news. The black squares are FTX lighting which is not compatible with the FSX Preview Direct X 10 mode. There are three choices: 1. Untick the Preview Direct X 10 box in Display Settings and run the simulator in Direct X 9 mode. 2. Continue to use the Preview Direct X 10 mode and download and install the freeware fix to be found at the Avsim Library, file name shader_release_v3.2.3.zip 3. Continue to use the Preview Direct X 10 mode and purchase the payware Direct X 10 fixer from here
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, I tried "shader" and it didn't help. I have Direct X 11 on my computer. Please note that FSX Boxed Set works fine. I only have the small black squares in FSX-SE. What's next? Dale
Nick Cooper
Did you delete your shaders before you tried the freeware fix? C:\Users\Your name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX and delete the Shaders and Shaders 10 folders. They will be replaced when you next start the simulator. Try unticking the Preview Direct X box and see if the black shapes go away.
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, I unchecked the "Preview Direct X10" and the black square are gone! Of course, the graphics aren't as shape. If there is no other solution I can live with this, but I prefer the better graphics in Direct X 11. Your thoughts please. Dale
Nick Cooper
You are not using Direct X 11 but Direct X 10. My PC has Direct X 12 installed but FSX is also using Direct X 10 and not 12. It cannot use Direct X 11 or 12 because it does not recognise them, luckily, both versions are backwards compatible to Direct X 8. If you try again with the freeware fix, you will find that if it is properly installed, it will remove the black shapes. Be sure to delete the Shaders before you try it again. Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, I'll try the Shaders again. I appreciate your patience and knowledge. Dale
Eugene D. Gleed
Hi Nick, Success at last! I finally was able to correctly install the shader fix. Life is now good. Thanks for all your help. We can close out this problem as solved. Dale
