Running FTX: EU with Microsoft Flight Sim X: Steam

Hi I have installed  Scotland and Ireland scenery (ORB 726 and 075) and both are showing in FTX Central  (Grouped/Europe).  When I ran flight sim/steam  I saw the update being applied to the scenery as flight sim was uploading.  I can see the scenerey files within the scenery editor for FTX.  I am using windows 10.

When I run flight sim say for Ireland I only see the default microsoft scenery ? is there something else I should have added?

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

For payware support, please provide at least one product order number.

A screenshot of what you do see, with the coordinates on the screen (Shift+Z) will

help to determine what you are seeing and what can be done about it.

Thank you.

Thank you for both the order number and the screen shots.

I am assuming that you have also installed the latest libraries.

If not, you must do so before going any further.

The first thing for you to try is to open FTX Central, select Europe and

click on Apply Group.

This will activate your Scotland and Ireland scenery.

When you restart FSX in Scotland or Ireland, it should look very different to your screen shot.

It's an .exe file, so right click on it and select run as administrator.

Then follow the on-screen prompts.

You will find files easier to identify if you go to the view Options in

Windows File Explorer and un-tick the box for

Hide extensions for known file types.

Don't forget to click on Apply when you have.

Thank you Nick! that has worked, appreciate your help.

I am just running the last install for England scenery - it looks like when I install this one it is asking me to insert a disc? which is stange as it is, like the other four puchases made today, all for download.  I am going to download it again and see if the request for a disc is required...

Many thanks.

No, there is no need to download it again.

Your download is a compressed (zip) file and in its compressed form, the installer cannot

use the files.

You will need to decompress (unzip) the files to another folder before the installer can use them.

There are three main utilities for doing this, Winzip, WinRar and 7 zip.

All are either free or have a free demo.

When you have one of these, right click on the downloaded file and you should see an option "unzip",

"extract files" or similar.

Select a  destination folder on your PC, it can be anywhere convenient and unzip the files to that folder.

If you did with the view settings as I suggested above, you will see the one file is an .exe file.

Run that as an administrator and it will install the remainder.

Thanks Nick, looks like I am there... appreciate the support.  Just on a last note when I run flight sim I see some objects, I have shown a close up and some in the horizon (these would appear everywhere).  I am guessing it is to do with display (settings)? would you have any thoughts what setting it may be to remove these?

That looks much more like it than your first screen shot.:)

The black shapes are the FTX lighting system which is not

compatible with running FSX in Direct X 10 preview mode.

You will find that after you have visited the in-game display

settings page and un-ticked the Direct X 10 box, the next time

you run FSX, the black shapes will be gone.

If you really want to run FSX in Direct 10 preview mode, there are

two fixes available.

The first is freeware and can be found at the Avsim file library,

file name shader_release_v3.2.3.zip.

The other is by the same author but fixes far more and is not free.

It's called the DX10 Scenery Fixer and can be bought here.
