FEX recommended themes?

Hey,

Still flying around just to enjoy the superb scenery. What a great product this is. Keep it going Orbx.

However, are there any suggestions regarding the Flight Environment X settings (themes)? I love to play with different themes, but what would be the most realistic one?

Regards,

Matej

Thanks Mango.

The clouds, sky and water animations are great, but I prefer a deep blue water. I´ve been looking for it since FTX was released (to match the awesome FTX scenery), but couldn`t find anything suitable. To get an impression what I am looking for (a picture of Slovenian costal area :-) http://www.pension.krek.si/images/PiranwithPortoroBay_mala.JPG

Welcome tot he forum Taikgunner,

Where do I find the weather themes? They're not in my FSX weather list..

There are missing themes for FTX can be installed by going here:

http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php?board=34.0

For the themes mentioned here, you'll need FEX:

Cheers,

Matt.

Hm, let me rephrase that a little before things get confusing. ;) Hope you don't mind, Matt.

The themes mentioned in this topic aren't FSX weather themes but themes that come with FEX (see Matt's link). You do have to own FEX to be able to select and use those themes from within FEX's own programinterface. FEX will give you better looking water and clouds and more. There are prefabricated themes you can use to simply and quickly select certain clouds or water or skies. You can also make themes yourself.

Weather themes are something different: they belong to FSX and tell FSX what kind of weather to show you. FTX comes with two weather themes for FSX that fit FTX well (at least, so Orbx says ;) ); these themes show up in the weather dialogue from within FSX itself. You don't need an addon for those. However, something went wrong with the initial release of FTX and the weather themes aren't yet included in the FTX download. So... you can download them from this forum when you follow the link Matt's given.

So... which themes were you really looking for? ;)

Well, yes, there are big differences of course, but they both sure do move around in the same circle. They are fishing in the same pond. They share a common goal. They're aiming at the same er... Well, simply put the answer is: Yes, they are similar. ;)

Gotcha  ;D Thanks.  I have Active Sky Graphics X (or whatever it's technically called).   So FEX probably isn't a good investment. :)

Although I think most people think FEX is better than XGraphics, it's indeed not the best investment to make. Specially... because REX is on the way!

This one is supposed to be even better than FEX and THAT one might be a good investment, even though you own XGraphics! I most certainly wouldn't buy FEX before REX is released! I am keeping my credit card ready for REX. And all following releases of FTX of course, but that's beside the point here. ;)

EDIT:

BTW You DO now you can modify your posts...?  ;D

Check out the link, I'd say. ;) For starters it's got a 'Professional (so that say) Flight Planner' and a Weather engine. The clouds and everything look cool too, just like the airport environments (although I don't think I will be seeing those with FTX...?). It's got a lot in common with FEX of course, but it looks cool. Since I don't have FEX or XGraphics but do want to get a similar addon now I've got FTX, I am waiting for REX to be released before I make my final decision. I think REX will be the one though.

Here's a curious question regarding FEX. I downloaded and installed the program properly, backed up all my original scenery stuff when it asked me to. I go to install the selected themes in FSX, ie, overcast day, lots of tall puffy cumulus, orbx water etc. I go into FSX and it shows fair weather and default water. anybody got any ideas?

The first thing to check would be the installation path to FSX. Btw - FEX installs only textures, not a weather theme itself.

Any info?

No. Pity. Only thing I know is that it's supposed to be released 'soon'. But my definition of soon differs a lot from that of the devs. ;)
