My sea becomes land when in Global settings

Recommended Posts

Hello, recently I am having an annoying problem with my ORBX scenery, but I am not sure if it is due to LandClass or Terrain…

I am running FSX Acceleration boxed, with ORBX products listed below (from FTX_Central), with updated FTX_Central_2 and current libraries. I take good care of being updated and my scenery library priorities (listed below) is tuned according to FTX_Definitive_Guide_v2.

In brief, this is what happens:
- Setting FTX_Central to Global, my sea off the coast now appears as some generic land!
- This happens regardless of whether I have some third party scenery on top or not.
- For example, I see this looking out from small islands, in Scotland (when selecting Global and not Europe), in Italy (e.g.,Elba) and in US East Coast (e.g., Block Island)
- The problem disappear if I select Europe or Global Hybrid (for Scotland island)
- Obviously both Elba and Block Island are not in any FTX Full Regions, so the problem persists there no matter what I select in FTX_Central (Global, Global Hybrid, Europe or NA), and this is expected.
- whenever I switch with FTX_Central I double-check my new scenery.cfg list and I see that the expected changes took place (for example FTX_EU Regions are not listed when I select Global in FTX_Central), so FTX_Central is doing its job, at least with scenery.cfg
- OpenLC_EU is always listed in my scenery.cfg, even when in Global (I think this is correct behaviour), but that does not prevent the sea-land problem to appear.
- If I manually take off OpenLC_EU entries from scenery.cfg in Global, I still get the same problem.

I link here images taken from EGPB (Scotland island)
(1) Europe selected in FTX_Central (correct scenery)
(2) Global selected in FTX_Central (land at sea?)
(3) Global selected, and Open_LC taken off scenery.cfg (land at sea?)

Essentially, it looks like my ORBX Global Base+Vector lost the sea?
I am not sure if this is a problem with LandClasses or Terrain.
I tried to go back to terrain.cfg backed by by ORBX installations, and to cycle through FTX_Central regions, but the problem is still there.

This started relatively recently, probably after installing the updated OpenLC_EU and maybe after installing FTX_Central_2. I did not notice it right away because I spend most of my sim time in FTX Full Regions, where this problem is not there.
I am think of re-installing OpenLC, but I first want an opinion from ORBX team. Is this a good idea? Should I first uninstall it? How?

Can you please advice me on how to troubleshoot this very annoying problem?
Many thanks!

PS.

I also have installed REX4, so could it be a texture problem related to REX vs ORBX?

In my FTX_Central_2 I don't have a "FSX_default" option (as I had in FTX_Central_1).  Is it normal?

Please help?

yes, I think I did that already (found that post yesterday), even though I am not sure what is meant by "cycle FTX Central at least once between options".

What I did was

1) putting backed-up terrain.cfg into my FSX folder (while saving current as copy)

2) In FSX_Central selecting: Global, Apply --> Europe, Apply --> North America, Apply

It did not solve the problem.

That is what I meant with:

"I tried to go back to terrain.cfg backed by by ORBX installations, and to cycle through FTX_Central regions, but the problem is still there."

Was I supposed to do it differently?

No, sorry I missed that line.

Perhaps another approach might help.

I attach a default fsx scenery.cfg file which should return

the sea to water.

I would suggest that you then add in each of your products,

which you can do by running the configurators you will find in

ORBX\scripts.

You might start with Vector and see if the problem returns, then

OpenLC.

I would suggest that if all is still well, you then add your "third party"

items.

Ok, I will try this tonight, thanks.

Just to be clear:

1) where is "ORBX\scripts" supposed to be?

2) given the ORBX product list that I put in my original question, which configurators should I find and use?

Global Base?

Global Vector?

OpenLC?

TreesHD?

Single FTX Regions?

Windows File Explorer.

Inside your FSX root folder you will find a folder named ORBX.

Inside that folder you will find a folder named Scripts.

Inside Scripts you will find files named

FTXConfigurator_VECTOR.exe and FTXConfigurator_OLC.exe.

You will not see the .exe extension unless you have unticked the

"Hide extensions for known file types" box in Windows File Explorer/Views.

To run each .exe file, right click on it and select "Run as Administrator".

You may see very little happen but when you return to your scenery.cfg file

or the FSX scenery library, you will see that the Vector and OpenLC entries

respectively have been added.

You may need to reposition the block of OpenLC entries to match your list above.

As above, I would first ensure that you see water in the right places with the default

scenery.cfg file.

Then add each component to the library and check again before you add the next.

If all is still well, add each of your addon sceneries and check again.

In this way, you should find the source of your problem much more quickly than if I try to

guess.

Don't run FTX Central until you have reached this point.

When and if you have added the two FTX components and all your addon scenery one by one

and the sea is still water, then you can cycle FTX Central between Global and an area and back

again and this will replace the entries for them.

Cycle it back to Global and from there you should still now see water in the sea.

Yes!! That did it, many thanks!

It was Vector, after all. I don't understand what happened, but after running the Vector configurator above, I got water back. Then I added back OpenLC on top (I had temporarily taken it off scenery.cfg for troubleshooting), cycled FTX_Central as suggested and now everything is back to normal.

Many thanks for the help!

Is it something that happen often? What is the usual cause?

While I am very pleased to read that your problem is solved,

I would only be speculating as to the cause.

I don't think the error is common and I hope that it doesn't

recur for you.

At least if it does, you will know where to start to fix it.
