Thanks gents and that must have been a wonderful place to visit and see all the Qantas history.

It sounds like you had a great trip and there is so much to see in the vast remoteness of the outback and it is a real eyeopener to those from more inhabited parts of the world. I had only been here for 2 years when I did a camping bus trip to Ayres Rock and it was an amazing experience.

I will try and find a photo later tonight for the next airport.

Your North American trip must have dozens Martyn???

This is Area 51. The hint is the UFO in the middle of the picture.

The reflections are of the downlights in the the lounge area in Air Goast Flying school GA. We treated my son to an hour scenic flight  down to Byron Bay. He's now doing a double degree Batchelor of IT and Aviation. Very proud Dad.

    Cheers

    Graeme :)

The ball's in your court John

A good point Graeme. My eyes were immediately drawn to the cranes and also I had two occasions at Brisbane last year when I used the stairs instead of the jetways!

Just looking at Google Earth, the cranes do appear to be in the right area and also there are some trees around the loop at the end of Acacia Street which looks like a handy place to park and watch the planes!

I have actually been to that spot on Acacia St with my son. I don't remember the trees. I was also thrown off by the boarding passengers dressed in their winter woolies. Quite rare in Brisbane :)

  4. Thanks Sammy, that's a great career story of which many of us will be jealous. Thanks for the photos mate - every time someone takes the trouble to post their story I think to myself - I must get my butt into gear and do the same. My real aviation experience however is virtually nil. Thanks again and stay active on the forum :)

  5. Hello All

Forum Nickname: Forostar (yes - it's a Tolkien thing!)

    Real Name: Chris

    From: Bristol, England

Sim Experience: Crikey - FS4, LHX Attack Chopper and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat were the first I owned when I had my first pc back in 1991. If you count F-19 Stealth Fighter on the C64 then I even owned a sim before that. Lines, pyramids and boxes...

RL Flying Experience: 20hrs on Cessna 150/152 at Manston, Kent waaay back in 1995. Since then, mainly gliding, but would love to finish my PPL if and when I can afford it!

More about me: Born Auckland, NZ, moved with my family to England when I was very young, grew up in Surrey and moved to Bristol for university. Met a Cornish lass, settled in the West Country and here I am today.

Welcome Chris, like yourself I am a relative newbie to this great forum, be careful it's very addictive! Hope your good wife is as understanding as mine. I try and get her interested but she would rather watch trashy TV which is FLYING TIME for me. Happy Orbxing
