Hello good day to all,

I am Jacques, new in your site, wishing to discover this new SIM as I am a fan of FSX since now quite the beginning of the Microsoft project.

Just loaded the demo version of FTX-ORBX project on windows 7/64 desktop computer where FSX is located at "PROGRAM FILES/MICROSOFT GAME/MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X".

After installing the demo cliking on the icone KHQM Control Panel, I receive the following msg : "unable to locate de FSX installation folder" and cliking on ftx central I receive the following : "FSX not found at the location pointed to by the registry or No FSX entry found in the registry"

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do?

Thanks a lot for your consideration and help in this matter.

What OS are you using Windows 7 ?

just another few tips

make sure your fsX install is excluded from Anti Virus programs, they all act differently and some of them just delete files on god knows what criteria
make sure to unzipp the installer into it's own folder
make sure you have Administrator rights and always run the installer by right-click and install as Administrator
make sure that the User Account Control is disabled
make sure that you have enough free space left on your C drive for the un-wrapper to do it's thing, safe to say the 20 G's is a minimum requirement
NEVER EVER try and run the installer from within the zip file, you are prone for faulty installs and other mishaps
for larger files use a download manager with resume option, in case the line get's screwed you can resume your download and do not need to start all over again
take your time, do not go on the click click click quick tour, you're prone to miss something and the guessing game starts as to what went wrong where

Hey There Jacques,

Just a little hint when making screenshots from your computer screen, it might help Wolter to be able to see the info properly.

Try this - On your keyboard when you have the applicable screen, dialog or window open in foreground, you wish to make a screenshot, press ALT+PrtScn (printscreen) keys at the same time and voila, you will have a perfect readable image to paste into your MSPaint  for saving and uploading. You can even just press the PrtScn key to capture the entire desktop.

Cheers Jeff

Thanks Jeff for the advice. I know this but as I am using three screens, doing PrtScn as you say, means that you will recieve three views. This is why I used to take the picture with my cell phone. Have a look on this sample at the following link:

But at this time I am still unable to open Orbx due to the following problem: "unable to locate de FSX installation folder".

If anybody can give me advice I will be happy.

Thanks a lot in advance

On my system (win7 64) the setup path is actually in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0, "Wow6432Node" is specific to 64 bit operating systems and I don't think the old Flight1 registry repair tool was written for that. You might try this one although I can't vouch for whether it works or not:

Thanks a lot Jim for your concern. This is exactly what I have on the registry at "Wow6432Node".

Have a look on the printscreen enclosed.

I used the reg utility same as you said.

I don't know what happen with this problem.

I never have had any problem like this with any of soft linked at FS.

In your first post you said you had FSX installed in PROGRAM FILES/MICROSOFT GAME/MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X, but it shows there the setup path points to "Program Files (x86)" rather than simply "Program Files", was that a typo or is there actually a discrepancy there? Maybe you could also try the Iceland demo and see if that installer behaves any differently?

Hi Jim,

This time this insaller worked properly for Iceland.

If I understand ORBX is, let say, an add-on to FSX, not a new simulator.

OK let me see what FX can benefit working with ORBX and will decide later.

Thanks for your cooperation.
