issue installing orbx products (FSX digital download, Windows 8)

Hi,

I'm a newcomer to orbx products (and to FSX itself) and I have not been able to install any of your software.

I purchased the England terrain from flight sim store and was able to download. When trying to install however it seems it is not able to detect the path for my FSX installation as it tries to install on an empty path.

I then tried to install your PNW demo which initially went ok (because it installs to its own path) until it got to the configuration step where it failed as well. It did at least install FTX Central and Aero which I tried to run and thus was able to get a more detailed error message which I have pasted at the bottom of this post.

I also tried your registry fix tool and located the fsx.exe executable manually but that did not help. I even moved my FSX folder from the default installation folder to "C:\FSX" (and then fixed the registry) but that did not help.

I purchased FSX as a digital download from Microsoft online marketplace and I'm running Windows 8 64-bit. Below is the error message for FTX Aero:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Check if your .Net Framework 4.0 is up to date as it looks that that's the issue you're having, in case of it is also available on our support page as well => http://fullterrain.com/support.html

Thanks for the quick reply. I have now downloaded the .NET framework 4.0 from your website and it did not help.

To further clarify, even trying to install the orbx libraries fails. This is what happens

AH !! seems your fsX main folders are write protected as well, rightclick, go to properties and untick the read only tag hit apply it will start doing it's thing and when ready hit ok and it will exit

Also check that your fsX path is setup properly, also on the support page a lil applet to correct it if need be

I removed the read-only tag however the same error still occurs.

The FSX path applet I assume you mean the registry fix tool? I did try that and I still get the same error after setting the FSX path with the registry tool.

Ok, I was able to get it to work after downloading a different registry fix tool from softpedia. It seems that the registry entry "AppPath" was correct but orbx installers look for "SetupPath" in a different registry location.
