No one can see a prop pitch change in piston powered aircraft. It requires oil pressure to change pitch and therefore is only changing pitch when the engine is running. Oh and... no you can't feather the prop on a single engine piston since the oil pressure is working against a large spring with no feathering latch. This is why by the prop is always at full fine when the prop stops turning regardless of the prop lever position.

The technical answer is that yes, a piston prop CAN be made to feather, but it needs to be designed and built that way. It is usually not done for weight and sophistication reasons as thoseĀ  - and the service requirements - would probably defeat any likely benefit in the event of a problem that necessitates its use.

But as with almost everything in aviation: There are exceptions!
