NSW Tour Leg 28A: Bankstown to Katoomba

Had enough of city life, so it's off back up into the hills...

Again this is a short 20 minute flight (I made the same trip by train a few years ago, and I seem to recall it took a couple of hours)

Crossing the Nepean river takes us into the foothills of the Blue Mountains

The towns od Wentworth Falls and Katoomba

Katoomba Airstrip is carved from the top of the ridge.

This is a tricky approach, with a steeply sloping runway

.. but climbing! It's actually quite a big runway for a dirt strip

but watch out for the far end -- there's a steep drop!

Taxying in to park, we go through what can only be described as a shanty town of hangars, hidden among the trees
