Our stay at Wedderburn is just long enough to backtrack the runway...

There's a nice amount of detail visible as we take off

Just 5 minutes flying, and we can see Holsworthy Army Barracks, cut from the surrounding forest.

Turning final. We had to get special permission for this landing

and as you can see, we were being surveilled at all times!

Again an impressive amount of detail at this OZx airfield...

This has been an Australian Army training area and artillary range since WWI

The base is currently home to 17 Signals Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), 2nd Commando Regiment (2 Cdo Regt), 6th Aviation Regiment and the 1st Health Support Battalion (1HSB).

On 4 August, 2009, four men from Melbourne were charged over the Holsworthy Barracks terror plot, an alleged plan to storm the barracks with automatic weapons; and shoot army personnel or others until they were killed or captured. The men are allegedly connected with the Somali-based terrorist group al-Shabaab. Former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd subsequently announced that the federal government has ordered a review of security at all military bases. On August 6 2009, a Daily Telegraph  reporter and photographer were charged with taking a photograph of a defence installation after being granted entry to the military base.

No photographs were taken during the course of this flight.

Hi Tim,

Great shots mate, this field was done by another talented 'Tim' in this case Tim Harris who is now part of Orbx.

Love the narration, I have a shot of the place from a flight I took from Melbourne.

I hope you don't mind if I post it here. Just reinforces level of detail included.

I also hope I don't get arrested! :)

Cheers

Butch
