cvearl Posted August 19, 2010 Share Posted August 19, 2010 I HATE these stories. You just know it is likely pilot error. My bet is controlled flight into terrain. Probably due to VFR flight in IMC conditions. Same thing up in Alaska. These mountain passes can get ugly fast. Unpredictable weather. At least what I have been told. Weather rolls in and you are caught in a narrow pass and maybe not enough altitude to climb out? Not sure I would want to do a whole lot of mountain flying when I get my license.
