Poider
Hi, Just downloaded the SP3.01 patch and when i clicked on the zip file i was told: Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive. if you downloaded this file, try downloding again. Is this common and is there a fix that does not require re downloading the file? Peter
Ian Routley
Poider, Some files are too large for the "built-in" windows ZIP support to open ... and indeed the Windows implementation of ZIP is not entirely to standard. Having said that thought the 3.01 patch ZIP does open under Windows (I just downloaded it again to check) .. so it is likely that you have a corrupt file. In that case, you will unfortunately have to download it again.
Poider
Thank you, but if i downloaded the file and it was corrupt, wouldn't it be corrupt again? Peter
Wolter van der Spoel
Hi Poider, the file isn't corrupt, I've just downloaded it and tested it works fine here, as Ian mentioned do not use the inbuild window zip application, get winzip, powerarchiver or another trusted zip application program to make sure it will do what it's needed for. Ian Routley
Thank you, but if i downloaded the file and it was corrupt, wouldn't it be corrupt again? Peter The corruption occurs on the many hops across the internet between the file server and your computer. There is nothing wrong with the file ... and Wolter and I have both downloaded it (literally going to opposite ends of the globe) to check. If the file has become fragmented, you will need to download it again to deal with the corruption. Windows Vista32's built in Zip support will open this particular file; I personally recommend 7zip.
