VOZzer
Hello everyone! With the recent arrival of my new PC, and the recent sucessful installation of FSX (FTX coming at Christmas ), I thought I'd share my tweaks and settings that I've applied in FSX, and what adjustments others have made (hopefully to improve my tweaks & settings). Basically, my PC specs are in my signature if you're curious. It runs very stable and very fast. I love it ! Anyway, my tweaks and settings are as follows: - John's FPS tweaks applied to FSX.cfg GRAPHICS Tab - Graphics Device: nVidia GTX285 - Target frame rate: 55 - Resolution: - Filtering: Anistropic - Anti-Alaising: ON - Global Texture Resolution: Very High - Lens Flare: ON - Light Bloom: OFF - Advanced Animations: ON AIRCRAFT Tab - Default Cockpit View: 3-D Cockpit - High Resolution 3-D VC: ON - 2-D Panel Transparency: 0% - A/C Casts Shadows On Ground: ON - A/C Casts Shadows On Itself: ON - A/C Landing-Lights Illuminate Ground: ON SCENERY Tab - LOD Radius: Large - Mesh Complexity: - Mesh Resolution: 10M - Texture Resolution 60cm - Water Effects: High 2X (Mid 2X when not flying near water) - Land Detail Textures: ON - Scenery Complexity: Dense - Autogen Density: Dense - Ground Scenery Shadows: ON - Special Effects Detail: High WEATHER Tab - Cloud Draw Distance: 60mi - Thermal Visualisation: None - Detailed CLouds: ON - Cloud Coverage Density: Maximum TRAFFIC Tab - Airline Traffic Density: 0% - GA Traffic Density: 0% (Both are set to 0% for the time being!) - Airport Vehicle Density: High - Land and Sea Traffic: 45% - Ships and Ferries: 45% - Leisure Boats: 45% That's all folks! You'll notice some blank spaces, that's because I'm away from my FSX PC right now and cannot remember some of them! Thanks very much for looking, VOZzer (Jack)

VOZzer
Heya Wolter. Thanks for replying, I have a few questions. Basically, why is your target frame rate set to 30? I know there becomes a point where the human eye cannot detect a difference in frame rate (e.g: no difference between 70FPS or 140FPS to the human eye), however isn't 30 FPS a little low? Also, I would set texture resolution to 7cm, but everything just goes "too sharp" (everything appears very outlined and sparkly from the air), 60cm seems to work? Anyway, thanks for your input, Jack
Wolter van der Spoel
Hi Jack, setting my FPS to 30 is because higher doesn't add anything except eating up resources that I can better use for fsX to run smoother as for the 7 cm res, YSTW apron textures are 7cm, hence as to why the setting
VOZzer
Oh okay! I think I@ll keep my FPS at 55, but I'll definitely change texture resolution and some other things you suggested! Thanks Wolter. Jack
djt
Basically, why is your target frame rate set to 30? Mainly because with FSX even the highest performing components out there aren’t going do any better than a constant 30 fps with any decent scenery settings. The best case scenario would be to lock the frame rate at 60 with vsync to match the refresh rate of the monitor (in the case of an LCD anyway), but that’s not going to happen with FSX.
