John York
Goodness me, do we need the OZx and Orbx airfields treatment on this cross Continent journey! This leg covers the 267 nm flight from Quilpie to Birdsville. In view of the mileage I chose the quite fast and very comfortable SIAI Marchetti SF 200. Here we are on the runway with a lot of dry and barren landscape to cover! Up we go into the wide blue yonder (I've always wanted to say that!); I have to follow this road for only a little and then its heading only and 'flight following' This road, well track really, leads off left to the exotic sounding Eromanga about 13 or 14 miles away I think this dried up area is Lake Yamma Yamma oh yeah! And this is Lake Coorinnie with Short and Etamunbarrie and Lake Uluwarinie in the distance The road map says there is a 'famous hotel' here but I've seen no sign of it. It must be up in the village somewhere. The next leg will be another long ride via Finke and a diversion to Alice Springs. Ever since I read the Neville Shute novel I've always felt I have an affinity to that place and those brave people who settled there after WW2. John Thank you ImageShack PS - Has anyone any idea why when I want to insert a word,it's started to delete the letters and words following it?
