davenicoll
Hi Guys, I had my E8400 overclocked to 4.0ghz and running stable for sometime (Months). Then without warning I booted up this morning and it reset to default. Now,I can't overclock..each time I put it to the stable overclock settings and save it reboots and then will reboot again setting everything back (it will disable the Multiplier). Is there anything within windows that will do this. It happened for no apparent reason...grrrrrrrrrrrr
Heiko Glatthorn
Not sure if your BIOS got a problem, but... Highly overclocked hardware can degrade over time. When your CPU was running on the edge, it is possible that a stable setting gets suddenly unstable. Then you have to pull back a notch or increase voltage (better pull back). Happened to my E8500 as well - i had to decrease 0.1 GHz after about one year. If you use too high voltage or the CPU runs very hot, it will degrade faster. davenicoll
Thanks Mango, Seems I needed to reset all voltages etc to normal again.. Basically start again...got it at 3.6ghz stable now... Temps no problem as got Thermalright Ultra 120 which has been lapped ;D
Heiko Glatthorn
I lapped the E8500 too . Well yeah, alright then when you got it stable. Many have to pull back the o/c after a while.

davenicoll
Hey Mango, Finally cracked it...wasn't holding my 3.6 clock either..., Out of frustration I was trawling the forums when I came across a thread that said some people experience problems with Overclock settings being saved in the BIOS if they have an External USB drive for storage. I have one...disconnected it and now back up and running.
Heiko Glatthorn
Wow, that's something which should be addresses immediately with a BIOS update... Which mainboard do you have ? Hope it's not a Bloodrage lol.
