I ran my FTX once before I defragged just because I knew it would be a fairly lengthy defrag (I'm a tester and also installed a pretty large Beta for the next region). So, I don't think it would be a problem to try FTX before you de-frag but there are some very keen and adamant defraggers out there who may disagree.
