  1. I decided to take the awesome BlackSquare TBM 850 for an early morning IFR Flight from KTIW to KVUO, and after being cleared by ATC to taxi to the active RWY 17, I was lost in darkness trying to figure out where I was in relation to the the taxiways/runways.  Is this correct??? Or did I get a bad install?  I usually flying during daylight hours so I honestly never paid attention.

  2. Hi Jon,

I'm really sorry to hear that as well. You were most knowledgeable and also added humor whenever appropriate in solving issues. Best wishes to you my friend in the new year and I'm sure you will pop up again in the future supplying your flight sim knowledge!

    Warm regards,

    Hello,

I have had the answer and it is that the number of Orbs to be redeemed for each product has been increased by 50%.

Of course the products obtained by redeeming Orbs are still a bonus compared to before Orbs were introduced and

    still free of charge.

    Hi Nick,

I have a quick question regarding Orbs. I vaguely remember seeing a post( of course I could be totally wrong) but upon release of the Pacific Aerospace 750 I thought there was a mention of double the number of Orbs for this product?? I purchased it within days of its release and did not see an increase in my Orbs. What made me remember to ask was that I just purchased PADU and saw that my Orbs balance increased by 13 points.

I enjoyed P3D as a follow on from FSX for a number of years. Orbx were at the forefront of new scenery design with their regions and then True Earth products. I purchased 90% of their scenery library.

But realistically, I cannot see any payware developers releasing new products for P3Dv4/5. The current market for MSFS is huge in comparison. So that is where interest is inevitably now focused. XP12 will no doubt also receive interest from developers.  On the positive side, there are already a huge number of add-ons available for P3D currently. No doubt, if P3Dv6 is released then it will receive the attention of developers.

I have MSFS, P3D and XP11 installed on my pc and will be purchasing XP12 when the public beta ends.

I now spend the majority of my time using MSFS. At first, I was not happy with it, but I persevered. The developers continue frequently to produce free updates which is to be applauded. Graphically (which is important to me as much of my flying is VFR) it is amazing and in a different league to all simulators previously released.

    Just my thoughts :).

    Hi Paul,

I would have to agree with you.  I too was very skeptical of MSFS.  As with any new item though, there is a learning curve.  Even my teenage son initially did not like MSFS.  But he has made the jump to MSFS and no longer plays P3D or XP11.  The graphics and performance of MSFS is leaps and bounds, and miles ahead of the other platforms.  To be specific, I did a flight out of Orcas Island on MSFS in the Beaver.  Just as a comparator, I decided to fire up P3Dv4 to see how similar or different the two sims were. I used the exact plane, and the exact scenery.  As good a quality as both products are( Orcas Island and the Beaver), I literally felt like I was back in the time using P3D. There truthfully is no comparison.  I remember vehemently fighting against FSX when it initially came out.  All of my comfort and quite frankly money, had been poured into FS9. How could they have taken my baby, FS9 away from me and brought this monster called FSX into my world? Then I discovered this company called Orbx was creating scenery for FSX that was mind blowing, so I had to make the change if I wanted to feel relevant. The rest is history, lol.

I would encourage the skeptics to start off slowly.  Enjoy their current platforms while "toying" with MSFS.  Just as I did, I'm sure they will find themselves waking up one day and literally thinking to themselves, hmmm that's weird, I've now gone several days without touching the other sims. MSFS definitely grows on you and over time, becomes the new norm. So to your point, I don't see developers cranking out too many new products for the older sims.

  5. Omg Ryan,

Talking about throwing a rock at a hornet's nest!  While MSFS has added a lot to many of the default sceneries, there are many areas that we were spoiled with in FSX/P3D by Orbx, that are no longer there.  The areas you mentioned as well as so many of the PNW airports aren't there in MSFS.  I flew from Concrete to Squamish yesterday and as I flew over Skagit Regional and Anacortes, and into Squamish,  it was disheartening not to see all of the high def areas of the past.  I know they are pumping out new areas right and left, but can we get all of the "Oldies but Goodies" back in our flight sim lives???

  6. Nicely done Frank. I really enjoyed your flight.  I actually visited Clingman's Dome last October.   I had no idea it was simulated in the sim.  Looking at some of the default MSFS 2020 airports made me come to realize how much we appreciate payware quality scenery as well as the unlimited potential Orbx still has available to our wonderful hobby.:)

FSUIPC 7 does all you need. Different aircraft, different bindings, different sensitivities, all automatic once set up. You just need to tick 'profile specific' when saving an aircraft you don't want to have default settings. Even the 747, requiring 4 throttles on my quadrant, is automatically set when I select it.

I use FSUIPC 7 as well John and love it.  However I do have a question. Not sure if it's a MSFS issue or an issue on my end.  But if add a new "profile specific" setting for a new aircraft I lose all control settings and have to restart the game.  Does this happen to you as well, or am I doing something wrong??

  8. Hi Contrails69,

Please see the KBUR V2 release announcements. If you purchased it at the Microsoft Markeplace you will have to wait until it updates there.    Go to your Content Manager in MSFS to see available updates for your products. Hope that helps.

  9. Good day everyone,

I purchased the awesome Simworks Studios Vans RV 14 through Orbx Central.  I noticed after SU9 the glass panel isn’t displaying properly.  I search the net and haven’t noticed anyone else that seems to be having this issue.  Am I alone or has anyone else experienced issues with it after the latest upgrade from Asobo?

I'd love to see all the airports that Orbx has done in the PNW for P3D also developed for MSFS!

In P3D, it is fantastic to have such a high density of quality Orbx GA airports in a region since it gives you a lot of options.

If you a pressed for time, you can take very short flights between many Orbx airports, like Jefferson County - Diamond Point, or Anacortes - Orcas, or Sekiu - Sequim.

If you have more time, you can just add more add more airports to your flight plan.  Friday Harbor - Orcas - Skagit - Israel's Farm - Concrete - Darrington - Harvey - Monroe.

You can also choose to have longer legs between more distant airports, like Squamish - Fall City or Sekiu - Cle Elum.

The PNW is also a very scenic region with varied terrain and scenery.  Fun place to fly!

Yeah Matt I honestly didn't realize how much I enjoyed them, and how much I miss them now because they aren't all there anymore.  The PNW is so special to me, as well as to so many others I am sure, because it was Orbx's first USA product(s).  I was so impressed by what Orbx did with that area that my family and I made several vacations up there and I visited Snoqualmie Falls because it was depicted in the Fall City scenery as well visted the Squamish, Friday Harbour, Anacortes, Concrete, and Darrington areas.  I was blown away by the fact that Orbx  sceneries were so accurate.  Oh let me not forget about Skagit Regional airport area too.  MSFS is definitely good, but Orbx would truly make that entire area better!  Let's keep our fingers crossed, lol

  11. Not sure if it's already been asked but thought I'd ask just to know.  I know there's a lot in the works with Orbx and it's great to see them churning out scenery for MSFS.  I have moved to it and haven't touched P3D in months.  Sure there are tons of planes that I miss and scenery too. In particular being able to jump from Orcas Island to Friday Harbor to Anacortes to Skagit Regional.  Any plans to add those airports for MSFS?  And yes the graphics and performance for MSFS 2020 are awesome for me.  That's the main reason why I haven't been able to look back.

  12. I agree Brad(ba43) and I also agree with Brad B.  Just as Brad B stated, I haven't had many issues with its performance, and to my own surprise, I have not touched any of the other sims in  the last 6 months.  It's buttery smooth for me, and as more add-ons have been introduced, the visual experience has been stunning. However to your point Brad, there are some issues with some of the scenery areas that maybe Asobo could use some input from Orbx and their expertise as to how to overcome these issues. There's always room for improvement.  That way each party gets to show off their strengths and get better for all of us.  Avid flight sim enthusiast, desiring to get the most out of the hobby.

If I remember correctly Orbx and Squamish's developer Gordon Madison have not parted on amicable terms. So Orbx might have to do this scenery from scratch.

Very sad to hear but a from scratch version would be a phenomenal thing to happen! Fingers still crossed :)

More reason to stay with P3D :)

    Dan

MSFS2020 has done an amazing job with my home state of Florida.  I can fly around the Tampa Bay area and spot almost everything just as I would from the air in a Piper Arrow( the plane I fly in RL). MSFS hasn't been quite as generous to the PNW region though, so that's where I as well as many others on this thread are hoping that our friends at Orbx will hopefully jump in! :)

  15. I will chime in and say my flights in and out of the PNW are few and far between in MSFS2020 compared to in P3D.  I got spoiled with Squamish, Anacortes, Friday Harbor, Orcas Island and Skagit Regional in P3D.  It was a really picturistic  short hop  flying into Squamish from any of these airports as well as from  Concrete and Darrington.   I hope it's in the plans for sometime soon.

OK, I know the first one and the third one.  Not sure yet about the middle photo.

1/  Despite the logs missing (or added, depending on your point of view) I think the first one is 74S Anacortes.

    2/ ?

3/  I think this one is KBVS Skagit.  The "Port of...." was the hint for me.

Great shots.  It's awesome to see these airports in real life photos.

    Scott!!

Two out of three ain't bad as the song goes!!  I know the second one was a bit tricky but here is an additional hint to #2.  This should be the dead giveaway!  :D
