I’m going to remove myself from this discussion because I only wanted to suggest a reason as in my OP, and you’ve dragged it to this and secondly you’ve proven naivety in assuming my flight sim experience based on one date and proven you don’t do any research as if you did you’d know only 4 products (maybe 5) were released as Throwback Thursday’s and they were EGHI, EGPB, 1W6 and PAKT of which none are on my list. Also you have attempted to move the goal posts by saying “name one that was natively produced for MSFS with the quality expected in 2022” that was never the point…the original point of this discussion was you saying Orbx haven’t released any small airports, obviously I’ve proved you wrong and you’re trying to find a new angle

Maybe they wasnt released as "throwback thursday", but the quality of them sure was, wich makes it even worse. The texturing on them really sucked, they just ported them directly. So I consider them all as "throwback products"..

Its ok you pull out, I dont really have anything more too add either.

And also neglected that Orbx have still made smaller airfields for MSFS albeit not as many as previous sims

So what is those smaller fields they made for MSFS, except "throwback thursday" and one free one, OG something..?

If you look at the Navigraph Survery from last year the majority of responses were for flying commercial airliners albeit there was a sizeable amount for SEP flying as well

However if you couple this with  the fact that Orbx releases of small GA airfields are few and far between, it doesn’t take a business genius to work out that the small GA fields they’ve released aren’t selling as well or enough to warrant the further production of new airfields.

Wich small GA field releases? Havent seen any, except throwback thursday and those fields are really bad ports from fsx, who wants to buy them...

Navigraph, lol, offcourse most of them fly commercial airliners... isnt that obvious?

Looking at your profile you are very new too Orbx so you really havent been here from the beginning, so now it makes sense for me why you have the opinion you have. I guess, someone like me who been here many years and watched Orbx grow over the years are more dissapointed because we dont recognize the company we once very huge fans of.

To me, what Anna is doing feels like a stab in the back, we old timers is what got them where they are today and all of us bought these small strips, because that's what we wanted. I guess our money isnt good enough anymore now that MSFS brought greener pastures..

Just because it’s a great sim for GA doesn’t mean enough  people want to buy GA airfields….

    anyway back to the topic

Just curious where you got that market analysis? How do you lnow people dont want to buy small GA strips.?

  6. Whatever, the small ones brought me into Orbx, the big ones will make me go. Orbx wouldnt care, they will make their money anyway. Used ro buy everthing with a Orbx name on it even if not using it, just to support, but from now the city scapes will be te only thing I will buy. If freeware wasnt such pita I would have gone that way...

Anyway enjoy your Orbx big internationals and regionals in the best GA/bush sim ever made....

From Anna's roadmap update, I seem to get the feeling that these airports don't tend to sell/make a loss, so you still expect them to make them?

Well Orbx succes was built around making these airports and it was what made Orbx so special, so I dont belive they make a loss, but I guess they dont make enough for the greedy bean counters....

These days I buy more from other devs than Orbx because I dont see a point just buying Orbx anymore like I used too, because they are not unique anymore. Im really sad for the direction Orbx has taken.

And yes, I expect them to make these small gems that no one else make.

  8. Also miss these things that made Orbx special. Now there isnt anything special about Orbx anymore, they went mainstream with MSFS and only focus on big aiports and regionals, the small aiports in places nobody heard of with nice athmosphere and all the flows are gone(not counting the horrible throwback thursday bad ports).. Its sad..

Not that weird... MSFS increased the overall flight sim market by 3-4x. There's a wide variety of interest within that - GA, Bush, Helicopters, BizJets, RJs, Airliners, etc...    If you build a small airport project that only supports GA + Bush flying - then you're limiting your market.

Say if you're looking to build a project airport in Hawaii - if you build a small airport like Kapalua or Hana - only people that like flying GA or turboprops will buy it. If you build Kahului or Honolulu - everyone interested in flying in Hawaii will buy it, since it supports all types of flying, including regional and mainland airline flights. You basically double or triple your sales potential.

The FSX/P3D model worked since there was always photoscenery and later TrueEarth available for the Orbx PNW and California clusters of airports, and there were a lot of airports within a short flying distance of each other - like the Seattle area small strips...   10 or 15 airports within a 30-45 flight of each other.  A lot of people would buy all that coverage and they'd be able to do a lot of short hops to detailed airports, and had enough choices that it wouldn't get boring. MSFS does the entire world at TE quality ( +/- ), so it's now harder to pin down one region to develop.

Well I fly small GA, not intrested at all in the big airports. Even smaller regionals doesnt trigger me that much. The smaller it gets and more remote its located, thats what Im intrested in. But I guess im not part of the market they are looking for. Guess Ill take my money and go somewhere else, but sadly there is nowhere to go:(

Asobo sometimes drop a gem like Out Skerries with their world updates, so Ill guess I'll just wait for the free stuff, my wallet will be more happy atleast.

Likely because they'd sell a lot less.

I'm all for exploration, but Orbx's a business, and they have to pay the modelers and artists that work on these airports.

It makes sense that, while the simulator is young, they focus on airports that lot of people want. When the platform will be more mature and the more traveled locations are covered, there will likely be more demand for less-known ones.

Weird, because they built this company with these addons and it whats got them where they are today, so its strange they will sell less these days...

I dont buy that they cant make any profit on them, but I can see that making the big ones will give way more profit. Well i guess thats what happens when the bean counters take over the company..

  11. Why not go back to the roots and develop those small charming airport in the middle of nowhere that nobody heard off. Those where the things that brought me into Orbx in the past and what I feel is what made Orbx special and unique. Nowadays it seems its all about regional and international airports that gets the focus. Sure, you released ports of the old small ones but they are FSX quality(wich sucks) and nothing new seems to be developed.

Its making me sad, and im not sure where to go anymore to find such gems. And what happend to "people flow", something everyone else seems to be able to do, but not Orbx?

  12. Anyone know if its possible to remove the included ortho in this DLC. The default ortho looks much sharper than whats included and it looks washed out.

I noticed this because i took a flight around cape town before i bought and was really impressed by the ortho, so I tought to complete this location I went to buy the addon. Got hugely dissapointed when i noticed the ortho from the Cape Town package was a downgrade from default.

  13. I love that payware aiports show up on world map so its easy to differensiate enhanced airports I own from default ones. But, not all Orbx aiports have them. EGLC, darrington, concrete muni and others i cant remember doesnt show up with a star and I tend to forget about them...:(  Please fix these so they show up on  world map...

Could those of you, who are moaning, that the quality of Orbx products has got worse lately, please explain what kinda shortcomings the new Orbx products have?

There is mostly just general nagging but no concrete description of what you are missing in these late releases. Thank you.

Edit: I am not talking about the Throwback Thursday line if products.

Problem is, I bought some of the first releases for MSFS, paid full price and they had "throwback thursday" quality but no mention of them just being simple ports. Then I guess after Orbx picked up the moaning they started calling them "throwback thursday" and sell them cheaper. I felt ripped off.

Also I expected Orbx to get the finger out of their yansh and actually give us people flow, since other devs seems to be able to have animated people(they told us it wasnt possible). People flow was actually what made me stick with Orbx in the past because it gave life to the sim.

To me it seems the bean counter's have taken complete control of this Company, I actually miss the time when John Venema was CFO. There was more innovation, and will to make impossible things possible and always strive to increase quality of their addons. Now it seems to be quantity over quality...

And nowadays, there seems to be almost no new small cozy airports being developet and the focus had shifted more to bigger stuff, wich was also a reason I sticked with Orbx. Now im more intrested in Orbx partners than inhouse Orbx stuff(I Wonder WHY?)

  15. They(Orbx) say the sdk limit them from having "people flow", while other devs managed to have animated people, aerosoft, and now pilot plus.... What happend to Orbx innovation? Clearly its possible... Instead we just get cheap port overs and what looks like a cash grab,,, Sorry, I dont believe that these throwback products dont make money, Orbx is not a charity organisation afterall.

The only products im happy with for MSFS from Orbx is the Sydney scenery and their mesh products..  I used to buy everthing Orbx in the past, now I seem to prefer their "partners" offers. Its sad really and im not sure if I will abandon ship

Im not trying to be mean or anything, Just a very dissapointed fanboiii...

  16. Finally some people flow, to bad Orbx hasnt investigated how to implement this on their own airports. Its like Orbx has lost its innovative skills and just release port from FSX with less features than the original.

How come a single small developer can add this and not Orbx with its huge resources is beyond me. Think im gonna be more selective of what I buy from now on.
