  1. Hi, I need to re-sync my Orbx scenery with FSX:SE and when I click the Sync Simulator button I keep getting an error message that says “An error has occurred while trying to sync your simulator”. I checked the log and I noticed this regarding syncing the simulator:

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index must be within the bounds of the List. (Parameter 'index')

(I’ve uploaded the central.log file in case it helps)

I would greatly appreciate any help,

    Thanks

  2. I picked up some HD road textures that are supposed to replace every road texture in FSX.  I have Orbx Base, Vectors and openLC's installed and I believe either Vectors or the openLC's replace the original FSX road textures so my question is, if I install these new road textures, will the Orbx road textures take precedent over the new textures I install?  If so, how can I install the new road textures so that they are the textures that show up in the sim?

  3. Hello, I have some questions about the scenery library order.

I'm confused about where to place scenery packages that contain photoscenery, autogen and mesh all together in one package like Aerosoft's Mount Everest Extreme or the awesome Hawaii Complete scenery by Flight Sim Jewels you can get for free over at FlyAwaySimulation as well as city or cityscape type scenery which usually contains autogen and photoscenery.  Where is the best place to put these types of scenery packages?

Another question I have is does Orbx Vectors work with or affect those types of packages and regular photoscenery?  Should I place full scenery packages and photoscenery above or below Vectors?

I think know what some of the library order should look like (correct me if I'm wrong):

    Airports

    Regional Scenery

    Landclass

    Orbx Base

    Vectors

    Mesh

I'm not sure about the photoscenery or the other packages I mentioned.  I would greatly appreciate any help.

    Thanks

    Hello,
thank you for your kind comments.
The one that Holger linked is the modified one from donkey's years ago, when a small team of experts
made changes that improved it over the default that was first issued with FSX.

Ok, now that I've had a bit of time to decipher this technical configuration file jargon, I do understand that the improvements are for the terrain (obviously), I see it says it makes changes to landclass, water, water effects and other textures as well as ground & water polygons.  Very interesting, I will have to try it and see the what the difference looks like.

It's funny I've been using FSX since it was first released and I'm still finding out about cool things like this modified terrain.cfg file all these years later that I never knew about.  The tweaking and tinkering just never ends with FSX, I guess that's why I never get bored of using it, there's always something new to try.  😀

I had the answer ready for you, but you have beaten me to it. :)

The terrain.cfg file at the end of Holger's link is indeed the right one and indeed, still available, even after all these years.

Haha I still appreciate your efforts though.  You've helped me with FSX and P3D in the past more than you know and I've learned much from your help and I always very much appreciate it.

Is that version of the file better to use than the standard default FSX:SE terrain.cfg file?  I see several changes it makes but rarely mess with this file so I understand exactly what the changes do.

  6. Hello, I installed FSX:SE Beta over the top of my FSX:SE install and it messed up my Orbx ground textures.  I've had this happen once before when I made the mistake of running the Verify Game Files for FSX on Steam and I was able to fix it thanks to help from @Nick Cooper.  I wasn't thinking and didn't realize it would overwrite all FSX:SE files installing the Beta.

I still have the thread I posted about it with his instructions and I was just trying to use those instructions to fix the issue again however I ran into a problem, part of the instructions say that I need to have a copy of the default terrain.cfg file to replace the corrupt file and I can find a copy of it here: Orbx\Scripts\FTXCentral\Work but the problem is the FTXCentral folder does not exist anymore it seems.  Inside the Scripts folder I do not see any FTXCentral folder or Work folder for that matter.  I wasn't sure which Orbx folder the instructions was referring to so I checked every folder named Orbx I could find on my system and I cannot find a copy of the terrain.cfg file anywhere.

These are the instructions he gave me to follow:

And here's the link to the terrain.cfg fix instructions specifically:

So where can I find a copy of the terrain.cfg file now?  I would greatly appreciate any help so I can get back to flying, thanks.

    Hello,
I don't think so, it's a long standing "feature" that no one has ever been able to fix and that has been the only viable solution.
It does not need to be done for anywhere else and is easy to enable.

Okay I see, I didn't know this was some unsolvable issue for the region.  Thank you Nick once again for your help, I do always appreciate it.

  8. Hi, I recently purchased and installed both New Zealand North and South Regions.  I made a quick flight plan using LNM starting from Hamilton (NZHN) to Auckland Intl (NZAA) which I Imported into P3D.   Once I took off, I kept flying heading of 354 to my first waypoint, ISPOT and turned left to 318 towards ORESO the next leg, seconds later at about 3,000 feet, I somehow crash into invisible vegetation ending the flight.

I tried flying this route two more times trying different altitudes but I still always crash into this invisible vegetation that's thousands of feet in the air, and always at the exact same point, just seconds past ORESO.

I don't understand why this is happening, I never had it happen anywhere else and I own many Orbx Regional scenery's as well as Base, Vectors and all openLC's.  I am using a new mesh, I recently bought the latest version of Pilots FSG's FS Global Ultimate 2024.  Previously I was using FreeMeshX so I don't know if this may have something to do with it or the New Zealand Regions didn't install properly or if it's something else.

How do I fix this?   I would very much appreciate anyone's advice.

    Thanks

Edit: I forgot to add, I'm using P3Dv5.4

    Hello,
you could try the Vector AEC "Automatic Configuration".

Thanks Nick for your reply, sorry I didn't respond sooner, I didn't get notification of a reply for this topic for some reason.

I do run the AEC tool but it doesn't always help.  I still find plenty of airports that are not at the correct elevation even after running AEC tool.  Often I find that it's the airports that Orbx either added or updated through it's global range of scenery products (like Global Base or openLC) that are not at the correct elevation.  The default airports that come with FSX (and are untouched by Orbx) tend to usually be at the correct elevation (but not always).

I always go through the process I described in my original post to double check because I never know whether the elevations will be correct or not.  I don't want to do a 2 hour flight only to get to the destination airport and find it's in a crater or something.  I just wanted to know if there's any other, easier ways to tell if the elevation is correct or not.

  10. Hello, I just wanted to know if there is any easy way to tell if an airport is at the correct elevation or needs to be changed in the Vectors Configuration tool?

What I normally do before starting my actual flight is load a flight at both my departure and arrival airports and just look around for visual elevation discrepancies, then if one or both of the airports visually looks like it's not correct, I then exit FSX, open Central, open the Vectors Config tool and manually change it.  I'm really tired of having to do this process every single time before I actually start a flight.

Please tell me there's an easier way?

    Hello,
the P3D message makes perfect sense, because by reinstalling Windows from scratch,

you will have wiped the Windows registry, which contained the P3D licence.
The same will apply to FSX:SE.

S*** I didn't think about that.  It's been almost 5 years since I did a Windows reinstall, I forgot how much of a pain in the rear end it is to do but I had no choice, my previous Windows install was starting to get really messed up and causing all kinds of weird problems (it wasn't a virus or malware, I run Malwarebytes premium and Bit Defender regularly and surf the web with AdBlocker & Malwarebytes Guard installed).

Even with most stuff saved on other drives I've been spending hours trying to get everything, installed, set up and running the way I need.

    Hello,
before Orbx Central can see any of the simulators, they each must be run at least once.
The P3D message at the end of your post is telling you that P3D is not properly installed and registered,

so it might  be that none of the others are either.
I would think that the first step would need to be reinstalling the simulators and getting them to run.

Once you have done that, if Orbx Central is still not working, please send in a support ticket

Ok I didn't realize they had to be run once before Central would see them.  I run them all soon as I get a chance.

As for the P3D message it doesn't make sense that it would not be properly installed or registered because it was working fine just before I reinstalled Windows.  Unless maybe I just need to run it...

Thanks for the advice Nick, I'll try running them soon as I can.

  13. Hello, I just reinstalled Windows 10 Pro on my pc from scratch so I went and reinstalled Orbx Central and I'm having problems getting it to see all my simulators (I have installed FSX:SE, P3Dv5, XP11, XP12 and MSFS) and I an unable to configure the libraries for the sims that need them.  I know this is just the MSFS forum but I'm not posting the same problem on all 5 different simulator help forums and there's no longer an Orbx Central forum either so I post here.

First it tells me it can't find my simulators so I select the little "fix issue" button, selected the simulator from drop down list and point Central to the install folder.  I did this for FSX:SE, P3Dv5, XP11 and XP12 (there was no option at all for MSFS). Then I didn't know what to do next since there was no Next button or anything so I just clicked on one of the simulators I added, in this case FSX:SE.  Then it want's to know where to find the libraries.  I only have two libraries, one for P3Dv5 and one for XP11, FSX:SE has Orbx scenery installed inside the sim itself.  I kept trying to point Central to these libraries but I kept getting error messages saying something like (object Object).

I finally get to the normal Orbx Central screen and I after going to settings, then libraries, I think I was able to sort out the libraries though for some reason P3D and two libraries and when I deleted one I get a P3D error message message which I uploaded however it's now showing the correct libraries in the correct places.  Also in the Orbx Central drop down menu where I select my sim, it's not showing MSFS or XP12 at all as an option, just the other three.

One thing I should note is after the WIndows reinstall, all my drive letters changed for some reason even though I have all the same drives plugged in.  I have not yet tried any of my simulators yet as I'm still doing other things setting up Windows and everything with it again so I don't know if everything's working or not.

Please, I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can please help me sort out this giant mess?  I just want my sims working again.

    Thanks

EDIT: I double checked the My Products pages for FSX:SE, P3Dv5 and XP11 and they all show my products installed.  I do not have products installed for MSFS but I believe I do have Orbx Trees installed for XP12.

    Hello,
If they are Orbx products, each of those that are installed into your Custom Scenery folder
will include the Migrate to Library option.

Ahhh I see now, I guess I'm just blind lol.  I didn't notice that option before.  Thank you Nick, I appreciate the help for the blind 😂

  15. Hello good people of Orbx, I just bought a new SSD and I want to use it to store my XP11 Orbx TE scenery to have faster load times.  Currently XP11 and all my scenery is installed on the same HDD.  I have some scenery in a library and I found instructions on how to move the Orbx library scenery to a new drive so I think I have that covered but I also have some installed directly into the simulator's directory.  I want all my scenery on the new SSD in the same library.

Here's the instructions I found on how to move the scenery library from a different Orbx thread:

"Moving a library is painless with Central and can be achieved in a few steps only: 1. Go to Settings > Libraries. 2. Note the directory of the library you’d like to move. 3. Remove the library that you would like to move (remember: this doesn’t delete the actual files). 4. Close Central by right-clicking on the tray and selecting “quit”. 5. Move the directory to the new location in your operating system. This step may take a while depending on your disk speed. 6. Start Central again 7. Open Settings, and then the Libraries page 8. Press ‘Create New Library’ 9. Select the new library location, give it a name and then press ‘Save’. Central will automatically scan the library for installed products, and then configure your simulators appropriately."

How do I move the scenery from the XP11 directory to the library on the new drive?  I really don't want to have to reinstall everything from scratch if I don't have too.

    Thanks

    Hello,
    yes indeed.
Each product that is installed into the P3D\Orbx folder can be migrated to wherever you have created your Orbx Central LIbrary.

Thank you Nick, I appreciate the visual explanation, I understand now.  You're a good man Nick.  That will save me a lot of downloading everything again.

    Thanks again for your time.

    Hello,
you should be able to take advantage of the Orbx Central LIbrary facility and after creating a new library on your external SSD,
you should be able to either migrate the Orbx products to that library, or if they are already in a library, move them to the new external one.

I didn't know I could migrate the existing library folder to a new drive without having to reinstall, that's great to know, thanks.

So your saying I should move all my scenery to the external SSD and it would be ok to keep P3Dv5 itself installed on my HDD?

  18. I currently have P3D installed on a modern WD Black HDD and I'm wanting to get an external SSD to install some of my flight simulator stuff on it to help speed up the load times as well as help performance and give me more drive space for more scenery and stuff.  I really don't want to install both the simulator and all my scenery both on the SSD unless I have too.  I have a lot of Orbx scenery including Base, Vectors, all openLC's, several regions and cityscape scenery too.  I also have Mega Earth and other photoscenery as well, and I have Pilots FSG Global Mesh Ultimate, everything installed on the HDD right now.

Is it best to install P3D on the SSD or better to install the scenery on the SSD or is it best to install both?

BTW thanks Orbx for another sale.  I just spent another $100 😆

I appreciate any advice, thank you.
