tphelps
'59 PA22 160 - Wow! That's what I first learned to fly in. It was my best friend's plane (his was red and white) and we flew all over the mid-Atlantic states back in the day. That was the early 1970s. What a great little plane. Thank you for posting this great shot! Ted

Maurice_King
Ah the PA 22-160 or Tri-Pacer as it is more commonly known. First flew under the designation of PA-22 in 1950 and was produced between 1950 and 1964 with some 9400 or so being built. The Tri-Pacer was the Tricycle variant of the PA-20 Pacer and was built due to the poor forward visibility of the PA-20 while on the ground. Both these fine vintage aircraft owe their existence to the PA- 16 Clipper and the PA15/17 Vagabond from which they are directly descended. The PA-22 was built in a number of variants also like the 108 Colt a 2 place version and many engine combination's as well threw the years in the form of PA-22-135 , PA-22-150, PA-22-160, the PA-22S-150 was a float version of the same Airframe as was the PA-22S-160 but both these Aircraft were 3 place
