Im in the process of re-reading the manual and found some statements that I´d like to understand better as they pop up in the reading!

Alternate Air Lever: Allows pilot to select a clear air source for feeding the engine in icing conditions

So.....in icing conditions is this procedure a mandatory step? Or should I wait untill something else happens?

Pressure Shutoff: Allows the pilot to cut air source to the cabin in an emergency

Wich emergencies leads the pilot to cut air source and why?
