Matthew Kane
It is magnetic wind direction...not a dumb question but it makes sense if you think of it this way. If I am arriving at an airport in a Cessna and receive an ATIS report then it would be in magnetic wind direction, because I am flying with a magnetic compass and a heading indicator that is calibrated to my magnetic compass. Therefore the only usefull information to me would be in a magnetic wind direction. In the far north compasses are useless so different practices apply up there. Maurice_King
I believe that all Aviation Data is as follows Wind and Course Headings = Magnetic Bearing up to the pilot to allow for Variation Runway Heading = Magnetic. ATC Headings = ALWAYS given as Magnetic Primary Language = English Heights = Feet Speed = Knots Distance = Nautical Mile
