It is magnetic wind direction...not a dumb question but it makes sense if you think of it this way.

If I am arriving at an airport in a Cessna and receive an ATIS report then it would be in magnetic wind direction, because I am flying with a magnetic compass and a heading indicator that is calibrated to my magnetic compass. Therefore the only usefull information to me would be in a magnetic wind direction.

In the far north compasses are useless so different practices apply up there.

I believe that all Aviation Data is as follows

Wind and Course Headings = Magnetic Bearing up to the pilot to allow for Variation

Runway Heading = Magnetic.

ATC Headings = ALWAYS given as Magnetic

Primary Language = English

Heights = Feet

Speed = Knots

Distance = Nautical Mile
