There is some interesting technology called spintronics or topological insulators being developed.

current CPU chips shuffle electrons, ie electrons are physically moved from A to B using a lot of energy and generating a lot of heat due to resistance, what I seem to understand is that spintronics/topological insulators only moves electrons with the same spin orientation through lower resistance pathways using a quantum effect that results in a lot lower resistance, ie computers run a lot faster and use only a fraction of the power with far less heat, perhaps this will allow us to run DDR4,5,6,7......

But optical CPU would be the way to go hey.
