Spirit Flyer_old
The pundits are falling over themselves in praise for Nvidia's new 460 GTX. It is much cooler and less power hungry than even it's competitors. Better still it's priced at $200.00 USD, and in SLI configuration matches or exceeds the GTX 480's performance at stock speeds. The release is a surprise smash hit among all the reviewers. http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-460-review/1 http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=954 http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/07/12/nvidia_geforce_gtx_460_review http://www.anandtech.com/show/3809/nvidias-geforce-gtx-460-the-200-king This is a huge jump forward for Nvidia, and has been a best kept secret! They are overclocking them as high as nearly a third faster than stock, with the encouragement of Nvidia itself, which has announced that these cards are all built to be a overclocker's delight. What else do they have up their sleeves? I wonder.

drumsonly2002
If one had two of these cards, could one run 3 monitors at 1900 x 1200? I understand SLI is not a gain in performance but to run 3 monitors vs triple head, what do you guys think? How about 2 x 480's in SLI? Thanks for posting Sprit Flyer. Nice to be on top of the latest and greatest.
Heiko Glatthorn
SLI setup to get even with a stock clocked single card ? lol no...
drumsonly2002
Heh, good response. What if...... stock frames per second, ie: 24 solid frames, on 3 x 24" monitors running at 1200 x xx ? That is 60 inches of viewable area at decent frames per second. I would hire my wife as an airline stewardess. (She could bring me beer for my bush flying runs in a Dog Bird) That is my second goal. First goal is running 3 x 3D monitors, be it 20", at good FPS. 50 inches of 3D glory !!!! Sigh..... I have not the funds to try this. I am happy with one monitor but no harm in asking. Thanks for the responses. So will 2 x 460's do the job? (getting back on topic).
tennyson
Drums, You're talking about old technology. SLI does not work in FSX! So many of us have been there. I run triple head2go on a 480 with native 1920 x 1080 (3 x 24" Acer wide screens) at normal frames (set to 25). Rarely does it get below 25 and my flights are smooth as silk. I've set my FSX settings (with very few tweaks)to the recommended by FTX and that is the trick. I'd like to go to 3 x 27" or 30" monitors, but haven't found the right set up yet to replace these. drumsonly2002
Tennyson, I really appreciate that response. I myself have TH2GO boxed away and saving for an i7 system. Between you and Spirit Flyer I will have a great rig to go bush flying. Spirit Flyer has been a great help to me personally in getting my rig ready for bush flying. This forum has got some of the best minds with the gear to go with it in getting Orbx rocking and rolling. (I am an old rocker from the 80's less the big hair). Remko
I run triple head2go on a 480 with native 1920 x 1080 (3 x 24" Acer wide screens) at normal frames (set to 25). I thought the max. resolution on the triple head2go was 5040 x 1050 (3 x 1680 x 1050) - according to the Matrox website? Cheers Remko
tennyson
Sorry, Remko, you are right. The monitors are rated at 1920 x 1080, but Matrox displays them at 3840 x 1024. I'm currently runnning 2 set-ups here, one for FSX/FTX and the other for productivity (my other i7 PC), so I tend to get a bit confused, sorry, my mistake. Dwho
I have a GTX 465 it performs very nicely in FSX, with all the YBBN control panel options turned on and the sliders set to the user's guide recommended settings I get around 25-30fps in the PMDG 747 with AI. Thanks for clearing that up Frank, some people make purchasing decisions based on this forum (I know I do!) so I thought I'll check with you. Spirit Flyer_old
WARNING! An almost unbelievable issue has arisen with the Palit version of the 460 GTX. This warning is manufacture specific. I don't want to be sued for liable so I will just post the link to Guru3d for you to read: http://www.guru3d.com/news/palit-geforce-gtx-460-sonic-could-have-issues-/ Looks like serious stuff as far as Guru3D is concerned! Heiko Glatthorn
Just wow So apparantly it is common for Palit to submit better samples to the press opposed to what they sell in the stores Wrong business philosophy, believe me...
