jankees
The Dutch Government bought a number of P-51's in 1945 for use in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), and these were delivered in Bundaberg, Queensland, and then flown to Batavia (Jakarta) via Cloncurry, Darwin and Bali. I recreated one of those Mustangs, and am currently on my way to Batavia. The first leg proved uneventful, apart from the fact that I ran out of fuel because I could not switch between tanks at first....but I arrived in Cloncurry at last. Here's a few pics from the second leg: Leaving Cloncurry Somewhere north of Mount Isa AU RED looking spectacular McArthur River Mine Landing strip: Big escarpments south of Arnhem Land Getting closer to Darwin The coast at last, and Darwin in the background ..and finally back on the ground I'm not sure I'll fly the rest of the trip, crossing the Timor Sea seems less interesting...
