I have heard back from the Devs.

The main points of response is this:

    QUOTE:

It would require recutting all of the orthos which is quite a large amount of work. It needs the time scheduling to do it. Would be around 2 weeks work to recut all the orthos

    END QUOTE

This an issue that is noted and will eventually be worked on but as the Dev says it is a major rework of the Orthos.  No time frame is given due to the huge amount of ongoing work on addons for all 3 sims plus now X-Box for MSFS and the time required solely to fix the issue around the baked-in greenhouse outlines.

    I hope you understand.

Definitely understand the need for time scheduling, but:

    a) this should have been taken care of in the past 6 months (maybe at the point when one of the other islands got the colour correction it desperately needed),

    b) if recutting orthos takes 2 weeks then your process is super-inefficient, what are your developers doing, using the lasso tool in paint and manually cutting orthos? I sincerely hope you have automated this process... The baked in outlines are hopefully generated by a script using a vector source, and this probably had an unfortunate projection definition mismatch, creating the shifted footprints, or simply the layers were not properly aligned at one point in the process... It would be better to simply remove the baked in footprints then (if the 3D objects for the greenhouses are not being placed anyway, then why bother), then simply render the tiles without the outlines. Again, if this takes two weeks, then your original process was horribly inefficient.

    c) this being right next to the only included (beyond question stellar) airport, I cannot imagine how this slipped through beta testing.

It is not a comment to you, as this is all beyond your responsibilities, it is a comment to the devs. In any case, thanks for coming back to me, even though I was pretty sure the result would be a non-action.

I will come back in another few months to bug the devs again, with probably the same result.

    Cheers!

  2. Unfortunately I have found more of these problematic power lines to the East of the Inn valley, they are closer to the ground so they are not evident during any IFR approach towards LOWI, but during VFR flights they are quite visible :( These (except for one) can not be corrected using the exclusion trick, because all of their endpoints overlap with pylons of actual power lines, so any exclusion will also remove those too. The only solution would be removing these from the original network data, but only ORBX can do that... I would be even happy to look into their network file myself, for free, if I could solve this once and for all...

  3. SOLUTION FOR POWER LINES

Ok, in the meantime I solved this issue with a small trick, by finding all the 7 power line pylons holding these super long and straight fake power lines and putting exclusions above them in World Editor. I compiled these exclusions into a tiny scenery package. See attachement. Put this (unzipped) in your Custom Scenery folder, and make sure that in your scenery ini file it is above the Orbx LOWI entries. Again, this will only remove the fake power lines and leave all the real ones untouched :) Hopefully some people will find this solution here. I have to say it is a shame that Orbx could not (did not care to?) solve this in the months since this issue was reported, while I solved it in 10 minutes... (And if I had direct access to the network data file encoded into the dsf file then it would have been probably even faster... and then it would be a solution and not a hack like it is now, even though the end result is 100% the same.)

  4. So, is there a solution to the rogue power lines across several valleys? It is clearly some artefact in the power line data, as I can even see one power line mast holding the Northern end of such a long straight power line in the valley that starts running South from the sky jump tower (keep flying South, past the large highway viaduct and you will see the power line straight in front of you going along the valley). It is quite an annoying artefact and the solution must be pretty easy by finding these anomalies in the power line data.
