Thanks for a VERY quick reply, Nick.
I'll try that in a few.

I just purchased and installed PAHO in P3D v. 5.
On configuring, I cannot turn off the static airliners, which is recommended if you use AI aircraft, and I do.
Any suggestions?

I can see why you don't want to go to v. 5.4, which is my personal favorite version - also over any v. 6 version so far, XML language is way past my pay grade.
But what you say about the developments your friend in Brazil has made sounds very interesting indeed! A real shame that L-M's v. 5 development has ceased, but such is the nature of business.

Well, just for the fun of it, I am attaching my v. 5.4 prepar3d.cfg.
And a quote: "I don't run P3d v5.4 because it introduces several bugs one of which affects xml tools and subesquently several aircraft I have".
How does these bugs manifest themselves? Have you tried posting those issues at L-M's forums? I'm afraid my ailing memory doesn't recall seeing anything along those lines...

Quantum,
I tried to fly over the area in question, and did not see any of what you indicate in your pictures. I have the same products installed, and like you I have them in a seperate library. But I am running P3D v. 5.4, maybe that makes a difference...
Can you post your system specs here, please?

Will it be possible to create a "New release announcements" heading for P3D?
When I open the present "New release announcements" I am smothered with MSFS releases, which are of no use to me.

Nick, I hate to be a nit-picker, but at least in my installation there is no Controls folder under \Local in v. 5 and 6.
Jorgen
-
Nick, at least in v. 5 (edit: and in v. 6) the Controls file is under Roaming.

Cathy did exactly the right thing. The time stated on L-M's website for processing such license issues is 2 U. S. Business days.
And you're right, Nick, no restrictions for any particular license types.
Jorgen

Nope.
At one time I even had FSX, P3D v. 4 and P3D v. 5 happily co-existing on the same system, but too much work keeping them all updated.
Today I have P3D v. 5.4 as my main simulator, and v. 6 to follow its progress (v. 5 is still my preferred version, IMNSHO it just looks better).

Nick,
Thanks for the explanation about the updates. One question out of curiousity: is the "red update notification" something you see when all the automatic updates are enabled, or do they only show up when the automatic updates are disabled and an update is available? My money is on the second option...
Jorgen

I had an issue with that update also, I rebooted my system and then it worked OK.

One more thing: no matter what Windows version you use, it's important that in Update, under Advanced options, the little switch "Receive updates for other Microsoft products" is set to On, and that it be left in the On position.
Since you use those commands, it's probably already in that position, but you'd be surprised as to how many people forget that.

This may not be related, but somewhere (I can't find where right now) someone said something about updated Honeycomb drivers. You might want to try those, even if they may not help here.
Have you ever tried to use a registry cleaner, or to run the DISM and SFC tools?

Then that is the first time I have experienced CTDs without Event Viewer entries.
But then we have to go with what we have, there was the exception code I mentioned earlier. When I searched the web for that one, this page came up:
I have not experienced this code myself before, but this item from that page might have a solution:
https://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/fix-breakpoint-error-0x80000003/
There is also mention on the page mentioned about an "exception/access violation error", which may point to an add-on.
What is the "LINDA.exe"? And, what other add-ons do you have?
Jorgen
-
Jim,
I do not have v. 4, but v. 5 and v. 6. In any of those two, there aren't any Modules folders, so I could assume that your Modules folder, and the LINDA.exe in it comes from an add-on.
The the question is, of course: which add-on? Probably nor Orbx, which I do have in v. 5.
Did you find an exception code in Event Viewer?
Jorgen
-
It could seem that the exception code is this one:
80000003
However, I would like to know if the one from Event Viewer is the same one. To find that one, right-click on your Windows Start button and select Event Viewer. In Event Viewer, click on the little arrow next to "Windows Logs", then click on "Application". In the top center pane you'll now see a (large) number of events with time-stamps next to them. Scroll down to the approximate time of your crash, and then there should be one or two events titled "Error" on the left-hand side. Those are the entries I would like to see, most important is the exception code in them.

No, he's not alone, and I am the "JorgenSA" in that thread.
I will allow myself to quote myself from that thread:
"The source of your memory access violation, indicated by this exception code:
c0000005
will need to be taken care of before you can get any further. Simple as that."It would seem that the issue in that thread was solved by the OP running a driver update, although this was not positively confirmed.
Most commonly, however, the cause of this exception code has been a badly programmed or incompatible add-on.
But let us see what the exception code is in this case.
Jorgen

In Windows Event Viewer, at the time of the crash, there should be one or two entries titled "Error".
Can you post those here - if not, then find the exception code in those entries and post it here.

I hope that the P3D catalogue from Orbx will stay available. Only have 25 to 30% of it. I keep buying it.
Me too!

Anna, thank you for this response.
What you say makes great business sense, since Orbx after all IS a business, and must look at the bottom line.
I have both P3D v. 5 and v. 6, and I must say I (opinionated opinion) prefer v. 5 over v. 6. Having said that, I also must say that I have not so far seen any scenery or AI add-on that works in v. 5 and not in v. 6.
And I will take the liberty to modify this quote from you: "We did not abandon P3D, the customers have" to "We did not abandon P3D, the customers who use Orbx products have", the main P3D customer base being large civilian or military organisations.
With greetings from the (cold) other side of the planet -

After running the configurator, the files in H:\Orbx-A library\p3dv5\AU Australia v2\Orbx\FTX_AU\FTXAUv2_05_SCENERY\scenery folder now had "OFF" appended to their file names. When running v. 5 it really made a difference!
If possible, put a message in somewhere stressing that running the configurator is really important, and also that after running it, the shaders should be deleted.
Thanks again, Nick -

Big thanks, Nick.
I was not aware of the scope of the Configuration options available. Went through them in all I have installed and changed as appropriate.

Can't turn off static airliners at PAHO

The amended file worked as advertised, and it put the extension .OFF on the file I suspected - but better safe than sorry!
Thanks again, Nick -
