  1. As this happened to me just after installing P3D 5.3 upgrade (following strict Orbx recommendations), here is the solution if you use GSX Level 2. I had this doubled jetway (SODE + default) problem some time ago and now I simply forgot how I fixed that. Googling the issue brought nothing, only misleading information talking about specific airports BGLs, installation issues, etc.

For those who have GSX 2, the solution is: Run the FSDT Live Update, and go to the FSDT GSX Control Panel and press the button DISABLE DEFAULT JETWAYS.

To find this control panel, enter "GSX panel" in the Windows prompt.

  2. Hi all,

The following tests were made this afternoon, during 3 hours:

    1. PAEN Orbx, ActiveSky OFF, season WINTER (today Zulu time) => CTD (T/O 2L turning left to take downwind leg, the point is over a marsh NW of the field).
    2. PAEN Orbx, ActiveSky OFF, season SUMMER (2021JUL09) => Flight OKAY (T/O 2L turning left to take downwind leg, then base leg, landing safe at 2L).
    3. As the region is in NA Southern Alaska, I turned off the Frozen Surfaces in Winter option and repeated the tests (1-CTD) and (2-OKAY), with the same results. The frozen (or not) surfaces option does not affect the problem.
    4. Uninstalled Orbx PAEN and repeated test (1): PAEN DEFAULT, ActiveSky OFF, season WINTER (today Zulu time) => Flight OKAY (T/O 2L turning left to take downwind leg, then base leg, landing safe at 2L). Obs.: The marsh NW of the field is not depicted in PAEN DEFAULT.
    5. Reinstalled Orbx PAEN, ActiveSky OFF, season WINTER (today Zulu time) => CTD (T/O 2L turning right this time and made a flight around the field avoiding the NW marsh. Everything went well until I decided to overfly the marsh: CTD at the same point as in test (1).

My conclusion: There is something in the Orbx PAEN scenery at the NW marsh region which provokes a CTD only in WINTER.

All my sceneries in this region and NAmerica are Orbx. I have not the necessary knowledge to search for more relations between other scenery elements involved in this region. I did not use ActiveSky because this software is often considered guilty in many CTD occurrences, not only in this forum.

    Regards and happy holidays

  3. Hi all,

I have seen in this forum some concerns about a CTD problem around Kenai airport PAEN, in Alaska. PAEN has its own Orbx commercial scenery and it is a very impressive work. I have been using this scenery for many years, but never in Winter, because the region, as you know, is not very friendly in this time of the year.

But, some days ago, I decided to test my KA350i in Yukon/Alaska hard weather. I flew from CYXY-Whitehorse to PAFA-Fairbanks, then to PAKN-King Salmon and, when back to PAFA, I got a fatal CTD exactly over the Kenai VOR (ENA). Next day, tried the same flight and the CTD came on the same place.

To be sure of the region culpability, I started a flight at PAEN, took off, and at the first turn left, a CTD missile killed my Cessna. RIP Dec 21 = Winter.

I read some posts here about the subject, most of them without answers, or simply a recommendation for uninstall-reinstall. I would like to start a serious investigation.

To start, I will uninstall Orbx PAEN and try to fly around the field. If things work, I will change seasons gradually. Then I will reinstall Orbx PAEN and do the same in each of the 4 seasons.

I am quite sure the problem is Winter and has something with the frozen lakes option.

    Anyone?

    Regards.

  4. Hello all

    1. Uninstalled OpenLC Africa and OpenLC Mesh Africa and took a flight along the coast to East and back. No squared islands and, even using the default land class and mesh, the result was very good.
    2. Reinstalled OpenLC Africa and OpenLC Mesh Africa and took the same flight along the coast to East. No more squared islands as well as any inland squared textures, nor straight beaches, triangular lakes, etc.
    3. Don't need to fear the crocodiles in some rivers there because they can't fly.

I consider this subject resolved. Thanks again for your support.

    Regards, and happy holidays.

  5. Doug,

Yes I checked the maps. The region I'm talking about is the map below. As you can see, there are any islands along this coast, let alone some big squared. As soon as my Windows give me access to my captured images folder, I will send you the squared islands pictures.

Sorry about the late answer - family health problems. We are okay now.

    Happy holidays

  6. Hi Doug and Nick

Following Nick's tip, I turned off the 3 BGLs, but things got worst, with vegetation mixed with runway or ramp. So I turned OFF ONLY the first BGL:

    ADE_FTX_PNW_S47_Tillamook.OFF

The other 2 BGLs I turned back to ON:

    ADE_FTX_PNW_S47_Tillamook_CVX.BGL

    FTX_PNW_objects_S47_PLC.BGL

I made a taxi around all of the airport areas and now things are perfect.

Gentlemen, thanks a lot for your support. Since the 1980's BGL (Bill Gates Lollipops) files are the root and solution of our problems.

  7. I also did not find any KTMK in the PNW path. Only S47 for Tillamook. Using Central, I re-synchronized the simulator and did a Verify Files in Pacific NW Region. My Libraries are updated. Loading a Cessna at RWY 31 in KTMK the same problem remains - aircraft 1 meter above the ground. BUT, important, this only happens at the runway, and if you free the runway at ANY point, you fall. The taxiways and ramps are okay.

    Regards.

  8. Hi Doug,

Tomorrow I will do a search in the BGLs to see if there’s some Gremlin around. I can also try reinstalling Pacific NW. When at the Tillamook field, I could note that the taxiway yellow line was above the ground and not centered. Also there were parking marks at the side of one of the runways.

    I’ll keep in touch.
    Regards

  9. Flying around Northwest, following a very interesting cross country flight route done by a couple in a Cessna 172, I dropped by KTMK Tillamook, Oregon and, as soon as leaving the runway, my Bonanza felt in a hole made by the elevation difference between runway and taxiway. It is impossible to taxi to the ramp.

If you position the aircraft at any runway and go out, you'll see the wheels almost a meter from the ground.

Is this a specific field problem within Pacific Northwest Region or LM P3Dv5.2 HF1? Sometime ago I used Vector to fix these kind of problems, but this feature ended in the Configuration Tool.

If you are interested in US cross country routes for small GA's, please google flyingnavigator.com.

    Regards
