i really enjoy to fly to LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport but the scenery for MSFS2020 has not the runway expansion which is completed since February 2021.
First take-off on the new extended runway at Olbia Airport
On 26 April 2021 at 07:00 the first flight took off from the new Costa Smeralda runway following the extension and complete resurfacing of the infrastructure that began in February 2020.
After the first phase concerning the reconstruction of the existing pavement concluded in March 2020, in fact, Geasar S.p.A. started the second phase of the intervention concerning the actual extension that brought the total length of the runway to 2,740 metres.
Work on the entire work will be completed by the first half of May, after some final operations have been carried out on the landing assistance systems and the arrangement of the surfaces, which will not, however, require the interruption of flight activity and will allow the new runway to be used in its entirety.
The redevelopment and runway extension works are part of Geasar's investment plan aimed at adapting the airport capacity to the traffic growth forecast for the coming years. These interventions will also allow for more efficient operational management of the movement of large aircraft known as 'double-aisle' aircraft and increase the operational range of departing aircraft thanks to a greater take-off distance.
