    Hello,

the "freeware" definition as described by Anna does not mean that the product is freeware, it would mean that the customer would be able

to download it free of charge because they had already paid once.

The problem is not whether or not the product is identified as freeware, it is, also as explained by Anna, that there is no means to share

customer details, so there is no means to record, on either system, whether a customer has bought a licence or not on the other system.

This would not apply if a product was freeware on both systems, as previous ownership is not an issue.

As present, it seems that there are only two freeware products in the Marketplace that are not by Asobo and that both of those are by Asobo partners.

In a nutshell, as things stand, a customer who uses a PC to play MSFS must decide whether to buy from the Marketplace, or directly from the product developer.

OK, so it's less confuse if we talk "store crossbuy" not freeware ^^

And this problem is more economical than technical. MS will never give up his commission (for use an Orbx Central purchase on Marketplace) and Orbx will not accept to pay a commission where he needn't (for use a Marketplace purchase on Orbx Central).

Also as things stand, in the case of XBox, there is so far, only one choice, the Marketplace, unless I have misunderstood the XBox system.

Naturally, things may change, but at the moment, someone who bought directly from a developer for their PC then decides to use an XBox as well as their PC

they must pay again for their  XBox version.

I would imagine that if they bought a product from the Marketplace only, it would work on both devices and that this would be Microsoft's preference.

Disclaimer: I do not have an XBox, so I do not speak from experience.

It's console system, yes, only one store, no choice (and it's the same for Sony or Nintendo). It can be difficult to assimilate for a only PC developper/user, but it's not a "new context". It's more than 15 years that it's like that (since Xbox 360 / PS3). And major (and very more influent than Orbx) videogames actors with their store suffer that and have never be able to change it... EA (Fifa, Madden, NHL, Need for Speed, Star Wars...), Ubisoft (Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy...), Rockstar (GTA, RDR...)... none had the weight to bend the console builder.

But for crossbuy (Xbox + PC), even if we talk only Marketplace, you wrong on an important point: it's not Microsoft's preference, it's developper's preference (cf Xbox FAQ). So it's not automatic and depend of developper.

Will my Marketplace purchases carry over to the Xbox version?

Microsoft Flight Simulator will be updated on all available platforms to feature cross-save timed with its launch on Xbox Series X|S, allowing players to transfer DLC that was produced by Microsoft/Asobo and progress over to whichever platform they prefer. DLC produced by third-party developers might be transferable, but that is a decision made by each third party development team.

Bijan, Carenado, Orbx and Zinertek have made the (good and friendly user) choice of crossbuy (I haven't need to repurchase WYMF5, Optica, London, Enhanced Airport Graphics and Bijan's Season), but it's not an obligation of Microsoft ^^

Note that if I'm a new user of flight sim (the last I had touch was... if I remember correctly... MSFS 5  ), I'm an old "multi system user". I play on PC (Steam / Epic) / smartphone (Android) / console (actually on all 3 ecosystems Xbox / Switch / PS). I'm full digital on PC since 15 years and full digital on console since 10 on many store (Steam / Epic, Xbox, PS, Switch)... So unfortunately this is the problem that I have encountered (and have become used to) for years...

Sorry to be pessimistic (or pragmatic), but despite all of Anna's good intentions, I can't imagine a minority developper like Orbx succeeding (in a few months) where EA / Ubisoft / Rockstar are failing (for more than a decade)...

  2. It depend what you heard by "freeware".

MS allow developpers to offer free content (we regularly have free DLC without any condition). The content just need to respect Store rules. What they don't allow are mod and content that don't respect rules.

We have had a perfect example with FBW A320. It was allowed as long as it met the store rules. FBW have decide to stop to respect rules (in their case, it was MIT licensing that required for them a specific branch of dev as the normal dev use GPLv3 licensing), so they go out.

I don't see problems if Orbx wanted to offer Iceland Mesh for free on MS Marketplace. But reach it to Xbox need development and cost money. It will be justify it was not free (from my point of view anyway). On Orbx Central it's different, it's Orbx's platform, it's a call product for attract new consumers.

Taipei was a partnership with nVidia, there may be contractual conditions with nVidia...

The question of crossbuy between differents stores is different. The main problem isn't technical, it's economical. If consumer buy on Orbx Central and have access for free on MS Marketplace, MS will not receive his commission. And reciprocally, if consumer buy on MS Marketplace and have access for free on Orbx Central, Orbx will receive less money (MS commission). There will inevitably be a loser (in addition to the consumer).

    Hi

I see Orbx London in the Xbox marketplace.

I use same username / account for Xbox as I do on my PC. I bought London via Central for PC. I thought once released for Xbox, if using same account it would be for free? Xbox marketplace wants to charge me again for it.

    Can anyone advise please?

    Thanks in advance.

Only one way for Xbox: in-game store

So, only one simple advice: if you want to purchase only once for PC + Xbox... purchase on in-game store.

I couldn't get the Honeycomb working with the Xbox version, from what I read there's some sort of chip that each device needs to be recognised by the Xbox or something along those lines. No doubt that's why Honeycomb are producing Xbox specific devices.

Yes, MS control device licensing with this cheap who is need for being compatible with Xbox.

Actually, some new device have been annouced from Turtle Beach and Honeycomb:

Turlte Beach VelocityOne Flight (end 2021, with quadrant, 349,99e)

Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls (start 2022)

Honeycomb Foxtrot Flight Stick (start 2022, without throttle)

Honeycomb Tango-Foxtrot Stick & Throttle (start 2022, with throttle)

Honeycomb Charlie Rudder Pedals (start 2022)

Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant (start 2022)

  5. Anna have intentions, yes... and it's only intentions...

Asobo and MS have their position, and it's clear: only purchase on ingame store from MS version can be transfer to Xbox version (and they let to dev the choice to do this and if it's for free or not).

You really think that MS will accept to not touch commission on sales for Xbox ? You really think that MS will accept external content for its console ? Return to reality and business. Xbox is a closed and controled environment, it's not an "open" PC.

And you wrong on 2 points:

    - MS needn't dev as Orbx for FS. It's Orbx that need MS (or Lockheed Martin for P3D) for exist.

    - target of FS isn't simmer. You think as a simmer veteran. You don't understand that with FS2020 Asobo / MS don't target you, they target general people and casual that research to do tourism or stroll every where... not do flight simming. They have a much bigger vision than the niche of simmer.

  6. It depends what you call "Xbox version"

If it's PC version on Windows Store, Donka is alright.

If it's Xbox console version, it's a bit more complex...

You will have 4 scenarios for third party addon (as Orbx):

1- available only on PC: your purchase won't be available on Xbox

2- available on PC and Xbox with crossbuy: your purchase will be available on PC (Windows Store version) and Xbox

3- available on PC and Xbox without crossbuy: your purchase will be available on the platform where you buy it

4- available only on Xbox: your purchase won't be available on PC

Third party are freedom to choose what scenario they want. Microsoft and Asobo don't force any.

For Asobo addon (World Update, Top Rudderfutur Aviat Husky A-1C...), they have annouced that it will be scenario 2 (crossbuy)
