Hi guys,

while this thread isn't about Africa there is quite a bit of data available nowadays that would allow for fairy detailed landscape work. One issue is the limited market (as opposed to more popular areas) the other that our commonly used map projections severely under-represent the truly massive size of the continent; see http://static02.mediaite.com/geekosystem/uploads/2010/10/true-size-of-africa.jpg

Cheers, Holger

Not really mountains but the Halong Bay in Vietnam would be great in 3D model as the place looks like Monument Valley with a plenty of water [emoji14]

Really, really fantastic idea Richard! Indeed, the 'monument valley of the seas' :) I love flying there often already...short flight from Hanoi, Nam...but to see one of nature's great spectacles with Frank's magic would be just unbelievably jaw-dropping I'm sure! Also, Krabi and Phangna province in Thailand and the awesome Limestone casts in southern China's Yunnan province! All magical wonder ! In terms of mountains, I'd love to be able to be visit a photoreal Roof of the World to include the 14 Himalayan 'Eight-thousanders', including K2, Annapurna, Kamchenjunga, Manaslu, Makati, Cho Oyu, Nanga Parbat and definitely Lohtse and Broad Peak.

I voted for the Rocky Mountains US mostly for the wealth of airports amongst them, and BTW the Rockys are spectacular.  Plus, much of the Rocky Mountains are within the ORBX Terrain Regions.  It was really a toss up with the Alps.  I have a feeling that Frank may bless us with the Alps some day anyway, plus obviously they are in the lead, could make this a moot point.  Here's to hoping for both eventually.

P.S. I think the Pyrenees would make a great addition too, and they are in Frank's back yard.

Thanks Frank, you are the mountain master, bar none!!!

Very telling, huge indeed, the rotating Google Earth also gives a good idea of its size. Glad to learn that the data are available and hoping that Africa is still on the OpenLC roadmap. From the Tibesti to Northern Mali, the Nile valley, the Great lakes to the Cape  a lot to see and fly around ! Can't wait . 2017 ;) ?
