VH-KDK
This is the joy of mystery tours in an area I have never heard of. A short flight from Mackay to Arco has now been extended to check out a big pile of rocks. 10. For those who have not seen the first post. This is what made me extend my flight. 11. So this is the Big Southern Butte near to the centre of the Eastern Snake River Plain in Idaho. 12. At a mere 300,000 years old it is the largest of three rhyolitic domes in the area. 13. It is one of the largest volcanic domes on Earth and rises some 2500ft above the plain floor. 14. It consists of 2 coalesced lava domes. 15. The base diameter is 6.5km 16. It's volume is 8 cubic kilometres. 17. Anyway, enough of that, Ermintrude wants to have a look at U46, Big Southern Butte Airport. 18. An interesting view of Big Southern Butte form the ground. 19. We are not alone here, with some land based tourists. Big Southern Butte is also not alone, see the next post later hopefully later after dinner. All straight vees with minimal cropping.
