VH-KDK
Continuing my tour of Alabama's freeware airports I am now flying to 3M5 Moontown. 1. Here is the Redstone Army Airfield with the Redstone Arsenal to the left. The Arsenal was the focal point for the development of the American ballistic missile programme in the post war years. Before that chemical weapons were manufactured here. 2. Huntsville, famous for being the development centre for missiles and space flight. NASA's George C Marshall Space Flight Centre is here. Huntsville is aptly nicknamed "Rocket City." 3. Over 3M5 Moontown and route 72 which I have followed from Huntsville International to get here. 4. Going around after a too ambitious failed attempt to land at 3M5. Monte Sano Mountain is to the left of the aircraft. 5. About to land and taking care to avoid Moontown Road. 6. 7. 8. After a short stop it is time to continue with the exploration. 9. Lined up and ready for the off. All straight vees with minimal cropping.
